Glad to hear you'll continue updating your progress here. The time frame/actual amount for the goal is less important to me than your insights on playing the game (though obviously we're all pulling for you to make a killing with a really sick winrate

), and your (hopefully soon to come) insights on changes you make as you level up. I'm sure you just hit a bad patch of variance and that you'll pull out of this soon.

I really hope that you aren't going to quit making the strat threads that you've been posting! Those are really good threads and have helped my game immensely. But I understand quitting this one if you feel your game is suffering. When you do get your game back on track, I would like to see another shot at this same thing or maybe a little smaller. I would just like to see it done.

Good luck with the challenge! I was considering starting a challenge to reach $10,000 starting from $10 playing sitn'gos at pokerstars, but realized it might take years to achieve and everyone seems to be doing a challenge!

It seems I now have to make a challenge just to get back in the game. I play the 3.40 sng's at stars and went from over a hundred today down to less than 40$. I started my account with thirty only playing these and somehow for some reason the suckouts I have suffered in just one day have been ridiculous. Keep on plugging. We both know it can be done so let's just do it.

When I started playing online i deposited 100$, starting in micro cashgames, fell down to under 30$ but managed to build it up again playing micro sng's so dont give up

It's a pity you won't be continuing with the challenge DSV, you have gained cult following here now, as did ChrisTC with his bankroll challenge last year. The challenge, probably needed you to either run uber hot, play a serious amount of hands, or take some risks BR wise. I have enjoyed you contributions to the forums lately and I hope you continue to make some good progress m8.

Took a shot at 25NL last weekend, didn't go so well. Should be trying again this weekend. If history has taught me anything, I'm going to run like god this time around.

Thanks for posting this thread, very interesting to read through and see all of the different stages you have gone through. My suggestion would be to remove the time frame from the challenge, just keep the idea of going from 50 - 10K and see how long it takes you.

I have only been playing poker for 2 months now and still struggling to stabalize a bank roll, never mind grow one. I have a couple of questions for people that have done this sort of thing:

1. How many years experience of poker do you have (or probably better, rough number of hands under your belt), before you are able to consistently win and this type of challenge is possible?

2. As a noob, what would be a realistic challenge to set myself? I currently have a $25 bank roll, and am playing all sorts of games, but always micro limit (and quite a few freerolls as I desperately need the practice).

Any advice would be appreciated and love to read about these types of challenges.

I was a losing player for quite a while. I started off playing 200NL in the local casino like 6 years ago. I probably lost $10,000 over the course of about 18 months before I started winning on a consistent basis. I'd say set aside a budget, not a bankroll. Figure out how much you're willing to lose each month, and use that money to play as much as you can. Your primary goal should be to play as many hands while losing as little as possible. And definitely take advantage of the forum freerolls and money added buy-in games. I'd also suggest picking a specific game and stick with it for a while. I'd suggest SnG's since they are very easy to master and it doesn't take much to be a decent winner at the micro levels

Everything that dsvw said, plus I would add 2-3 micro tourneys after you get a month of SnG's under your belt. When you master the SnG's you can also do well in tourneys if you just stick to your game. And understand that MTT's take a lot more patience but can be a lot more rewarding.

Thanks for the advice. It is funny that you have mentioned sng's, as I have found a 30cent SNG on Full tilt that I have been playing more frequently than anything else lately. 9 person, payout is entry into a $1 tourny (which I then unregister from and can use the money for more SNGs) or 25Cents for third. Not much money involved, but gives me the experience I need.

IN the last couple of days I have played 14 of these, 3 - 1st place, 3 - 3rd place, and 8 lower than that (but mostly 4th or 5th). The next level up for the Full tilt 1 table SNGs is 90cents. What kind of record should I be striving for before I head up to that?

I know I am not ready yet as I am still at a net loss for these games ($4.20 buyin - 3.75 in prize money). Do you simply use the net gain from your games to decide when to move up a level?

fwiw dsvw, I think the challenge is still onnnnnnnnnn!! I think you have alot of knowledge about the game and are goot with analysis. You talk good strategy and have written some good articles.
If you can put your talk and thinking on the tables you will be a good player and beat up the micros and lowstakes IMO.
Also this is where the money can turn in nicely, you can easily have a $1k month at 25nl and $2K month at 50nl and fpps/bonuses start coming worthwhile just put in some nice volume and keep it up.

If I hadn't totally slacked this month then yeah, maybe. But as it stands, I'm gonna be lucky to hit 25k hands this month. I'm about 2 weeks away from the halfway point so I'd have to play like 75k hands/month from here on out and that's just not me any more. I don't like spending all my free time grinding. Plus I won't be able to withdraw any money for the next 3 months, which kinda sucks. Tough to stay motivated when you're not getting any rewards for all the hard work.

I'm still going to keep grinding it out though, no more deposits. This experience has done wonders for my game. I feel right now I'm playing better than I ever have before. My emotional control has improved tons as well. I'm still going to win $10k in a reasonably short amount of time starting with $50 which is still pretty impressive, imo. So I guess in a way, the challenge is still on, just the timeframe has been removed.
