My word, that's embarrassing. Appreciate it, J, but if you wanna edit out that second and third sentence, from "You" to "drive", that'd be okay by me. Like I said, he's ignorant. I mean, I'm already beyond that, successfully, and just trying to be an actual player now. Thank you though, for real. You've been lurking. Lol

Good points about differentiations in individual bests. I think that being great at anything requires a careful balance. It's not so simple as to say "I'm going to push everything else off until I'm the best poker player in the world!"

I echo what duggs, dmo and wIZZIm said and I'll take things one step further: you REALLY DON'T want to see any of the group who agree with Ed at the tables. We're way ahead of you in the poker life cycle and, as a result, you'd be in over your head.

Good luck on the felt.

-HooDooKoo

But you are missing my point. If you all have that same loser mentality that ed miller spews in his lecture, then I would be very GLAD to have you at any poker table I play at. With that mentality, the battle has been lost before you even sit at the table!

Happy to do that for you sir. You had mentioned it in a previous thread so didn't realize it was a problem. My apologies sir :)

I'm irk'd, also.

Thing is, I feel like you're upset that nobody agrees with you, but the reason that nobody agrees with you is because you must have disagreed with this video as soon as you saw the name of it. I feel like everyone in here has watched it in more depth than you have while you saw the name and freaked out and came here.

This is not a judgment, it's just how it looks and feels. The whole argument is ignorant af.

I didn't know who ed miller was before watching the video. And I prefer being one who goes against the grain anyways. I don't pander to the crowd and if I feel strongly about something, I express it.

Ed Miller spews a loser mentality in this video and I personally will not subject myself to that type of negativity. If you like it kudos to you but I honestly would much prefer to play players with loser's mentalities because people like that actually help me beat them at the table!

...not that your not able, not that you lack the capacity, I cant say that theres no way I could know that, but that you wont because you have the wrong attitude....

I think the wrong attitude is that you could never be a "phil Ivey" as Ed Miller states in his video. This is to say in Ed MIller's opinion, no matter what you do, no matter how hard you try, you can never be as good as Phil Ivey.....

But I say Phil Ivey is not God. I only hold God in such high esteem. I don't put limits on what I can be. I will try to be the best I can be and yes maybe I can one day surpass Phil Ivey in poker skill....I don't place any limitation on what is possible. People who do place limitations like that are adopting a loser's mentality in my opinion.

It is like telling a child in gradeschool he/she can never be this or that. VERY NEGATIVE and by no means realistic. All I say is that I wont' let anyone contaminate my own thought process. I see the sky as the limit....and I believe this is in fact the right attitude

No, punctual, you are missing the point. If you believe that you can win at the poker table simply by WILLING yourself to do so, then your view of reality is so fundamentally flawed that there's no point in arguing with you. FWIW, you have the same chance of willing yourself to levitate at the poker table as you do of simply willing yourself to win at said table.

Those of us that actually UNDERSTAND what Miller said in that video (which has nothing to do with "loser mentality", BTW) --- players like duggs and dmo and myself --- we aren't losing players. Not even close. In fact, we have all been quite successful in our poker endeavors. We just know that our poker ceilings are capped by our individual skill sets and that, as a result, we have little or no chance of ever holding our own against elite poker players. Similarly, we know that we literally have no chance of beating LeBron James and any two other players in a 3-on-3 basketball game, or that we have no chance of beating Michael Phelps in a swim race. Not now, and not ever. Your belief that admitting those things makes us "losers", well, that's just crazy talk.

Best of luck to you.

So why aren't you in the nba or nfl or FIFA World Cup. Or playing the main still? This is just really sloppy thinking. Also passive aggressive taunts like hope to have people like you at tables really irk me, there are plenty of people here who follow and enjoy ed miller, challenge them or drop the insinuations.

I've been studying poker religiously since September 2013. I have so much to learn still and a lot of that learning probably has to do with introspection (i.e. delving into my soul and figuring out what I am doing wrong and why).

But I really do want people with loser's mentalities at my table; I wasn't taunting I was being real. Like i've said, people like that already lost the game before they even sit down to play!

Kudos to those who follow ed miller. I will not be one of those. There are enough people in the world with "you can never be" attitudes....don't need another one tainting my thought process. What good could possibly come from that kind of brainwashing?

I watched the whole thing, found nothing objectionable, but feel like I got Rick Rolled at the end.

What I got out of it was a sort of reality check. Having never idolized any poker player, it wouldn't bother me for any particular (big named) poker player to sit down at my table. I would enjoy the experience, but I would enjoy it without that player too. And while that vid did not get to that point, it did feel as if it were aiming on getting to the point of saying "Play poker at a level you can enjoy'. Learning about what one can comfortably enjoy vs what one would obviously find tortuous seems like a very sane thing to do, but as Ed suggested, there is a big delusional factor involved with poker.

The reality check is his call for each of us to figure that out.

Do you play on Carbon or only Bovada with their anonymous tables?

Edit: I've probably already kicked the sh*t out of you on Bovada, btw. Unless you play at 1kNL+. Pretty much ran the table from 5nl to 600nl. Point being that my mindset is just fine. I can even go so far as to say that, should I ever happen to run into Phil Ivey, I'm absolutely certain that I'll be able to beat him. The only question is whether or not I will on that occasion. If you and I should ever play, there is no question.

This is one of the most naïve, idealistic things I have ever read.

I don't care how hard you study about kinesiology/body mechanics and weight training, nor how hard you train in the gym or on the track. You will NEVER break Usain Bolt's WR in the 100 meter dash. Ever. His natural gifts are too much for you to overcome, irrespective of how badly you want to beat that WR and how hard you work at it. Believing otherwise is pure folly. If you want to believe otherwise, more power to you --- but you will end up being very disappointed with yourself and your life.

Going against the grain is fine. In fact, sometimes it's even admirable. Having said that, it doesn't make you any more likely to be RIGHT. Try not to assign causality to going against the grain. It will make you far wiser.

I do have a question.... What does make someone an Ivey? Is it exponential player growth? Is it a will to truly be great? Was Ivey just born with a skill cap that he didn't reach until he was the best in the world?

High skill cap, studies all games, moved up extremely quickly, degenerate gambler, and the speed of growth matters too. More importantly he leads trends rather than follows them. And is also extremely smart and given op doesn't really read responses I don't think he has the capability

You are clearly one of the brainwashed zombies walking around this world. Keep beleiving you are capable of nothing....see where that attitude gets you my friend.

causality to going against the grain? causality versus what? correlation? I think you have no clue. You should use words you better understand....

Makes sense. Thanks :)

@punctual: tbh I think your mind set of "I can do whatever I believe I can" is only going to hurt you long term. It's good to believe in yourself..... But it's even better to live in a reality, as opposed to a fiction. What you are saying can only be true in a vacuum utopia. Where everything is hunky dory.... And nobody has a cap. People cap out on their abilities.

So do you believe it is better to "believe in " people who say you can not do things? Didn't your parents say making a living gambling is something you could not do? Do you beleive them?

You're too smart, bro. I can't wait till I make a video that you deem worth watching. I'll bring a notebook. Not sure if I ever said it, but good luck with your doctorate. Altogether, I feel like punctual has assigned a sort of metaphysical power to poker, whether within his deity willing his wins along or, as it sounds, a more Eastern approach involving chi, ki, qi, karma, so on and so forth, basically suggesting that a positive mindset that believes in the ability to do all things is the key to being able to do all things. I do believe that a certain level of ignorance can become powerful, even allow people to defy gravity and other scientific truths to some degree. I also realize that the level of ignorance that is required is actually unattainable in a developed country. This would be like people who never know that you are supposed to be unable to jump over a house being able to actually jump over a house. In poker for this individual then, this would equate to never knowing that you're not supposed to be able to beat Phil Ivey leading you to beating Phil Ivey (or other insanely skilled professional, don't get too technical. Obvious hypotheticals.) God doesn't exist.

punctual, read the sh*t, bro. You just proved his point you dimwitted numbskull and other fun demeaning terms that take the place of what I really want to call you since you read all posts but ignore my inquisition about the sites you play on and this is a run-on sentence thank you very much.

Edit: I forgot I could just check your profile. I believe I consistently take advantage of your inclination to go all-in with TP.

Edit2: Yikes, bro. How old are you, btw? You play like a teenager.

My brain is not yet fully developed at 15. I can't recognize a cap in any of capabilities as of now. What I can say is that it is highly unlikely I will ever be good enough to go pro. It is illogical for me to believe I can do something very very few can do.

There are no caps on your capabilities......people who take up poker professionally believe they can do it. If you don't have that belief then you are setting yourself up for failure, IMHO
