Let us know when you figure out how to fly, or shape-shift, or break free of your physical bonds and become immortal.
Be well.

Living life +EV, as it may come to be called.Jblocher1 said:I like to think in terms of the most likely possible outcome. Isn't that what poker payers do? We think..... "Am I ahead of his range?" In terms of my life equity..... I'm not likely to make it as a pro, therefore I don't like to consider it as a possibility. It's a bad mind set to think we can be whatever we want

punctual said:Funny how you liken being as good as Phil Ivey to flying, shape-shifting, and immortality....damn, do people really think Phil Ivey is a GOD?
This is disturbing
HooDooKoo said:I didn't say conclusively that you can't be as good at poker as Phil Ivey is --- although I now have plenty of anecdotal evidence that suggests it's impossible. That's not, however, relevant to my comment above.
You are the only person in this thread espousing that anything is possible if you believe it enough and work hard enough at it. The fact that anything is possible in your world means that flying (unaided by tools/machines), shape-shifting, and immortality are possible --- if you believe in them enough and work hard enough to develop those skills. Yet no one in the history of mankind has managed to do any of those things, even though people have clearly tried to do each of them. If those things are possible in your world, how do you explain why no one has ever accomplished any of those feats?

Altogether, I feel like punctual has assigned a sort of metaphysical power to poker, whether within his deity willing his wins along or, as it sounds, a more Eastern approach involving chi, ki, qi, karma, so on and so forth, basically suggesting that a positive mindset that believes in the ability to do all things is the key to being able to do all things. I do believe that a certain level of ignorance can become powerful, even allow people to defy gravity and other scientific truths to some degree. I also realize that the level of ignorance that is required is actually unattainable in a developed country. This would be like people who never know that you are supposed to be unable to jump over a house being able to actually jump over a house. In poker for this individual then, this would equate to never knowing that you're not supposed to be able to beat Phil Ivey leading you to beating Phil Ivey (or other insanely skilled professional, don't get too technical. Obvious hypotheticals.) God doesn't exist.

Def agree with the rest

The grant's pretty much the biggest obstacle, as I understand it. Wouldn't know. Wonder what I could've done with an advanced degree in philosophy (lol). It was a good time though.
Anyway, we digress in the lull. After checking the s/n and realizing we have a pretty extensive history, I have nothing left to add. I don't need to play against him to prove anything, because I already have, and knowing that he plays on Bovada more than he plays on the site where I can look him up only suggests that I must have crushed him when I crushed that entire site up to and through 600nl.
punctual, you do not want me at your table. I have the data that proves it. Gg.
Oh and this thread is irrelevant aside from the fact that you did bring up a video that others may want to watch, and for that, you should be thanked. Truth be told, this video doesn't even provide you with enough to bash, much less a reason to. There are good parts to you attempting to, though, because we can talk about how you need to keep a level head and not burn yourself out like you would be driven to.

duggs said:Ie I don't have the natural potential to be an Olympic athlete, believing I do doesn't change my physical make up
duggs said:Nature v nurture does not refer to physical abilities that's just plain wrong. It's plain old genetics, same reason I'm moderately likely to get cancer but extremely unlikely to get an age related degenerative disease.
punctual said:Those who have achieved great things first and foremost believed that they could achieve those things. Whether it was poor black Barack Obama beleiving he could be president one day or Nikola Tesla believing he could find a way to make Alternating Current the standard in the power industry.
So let me say this straight up: if you don't believe you will be successful in poker, just stop playing now! Believing is everything...
