Am I having bad luck or playing badly?

You're on a downswing, nothing's working, every time you go in to burst takes a hit, every time you bet on the turn you take a reraise, all bluffs are paid.
We all know there's luck involved in the short term, but when you don't get at least one winning session you get unmotivated, it happens even with elite players who have several years of success.

So, a simple question comes up, are you in a bad phase or playing badly? Why doesn't this bad luck go away? Or are you creating "bad luck" because you're playing badly?

Downswings are normal. Player tendencies change very fast, it takes a lot of attention and calm to stay in the flow.

The good thing about being unlucky is that it goes away again, even if you may have had bad luck for a long time, it will definitely pass again. I can't say whether you are a good or bad player. When I'm in such a phase, I try to play even stricter, and I don't bluff at all if possible, although I bluff very little or not at all, even without getting on a losing streak.

Good morning.Sometimes, even if you are playing well you wil have some bad results.If that lasts that long, you are in a downswing.A poker player must deal with it.Maybe you should analize the hands you hae been playing lately.Who knows , you could be makng some mistakes in your game.

You can have also good play and bad luck.

Lately i play very solid but get so many bad beats that i made me think i play bad, that is not true oc.

I think it's normal to have periods of time that you are going to lose no matter how well do you play. But how long your bad run is lasting? I think if it's lasting for too much time, maybe it's time to have a careful at your hand history. A good idea is also showing your hand history to another poker player, because sometimes we can't see out own mistakes.

That's why is so important nowadays to have a good mental poker game and realize that you can't control the way the boards come but you can control each of your actions and make decisions on each street to maximize your chances of winning... Also, we're all humans and we need breaks to recharge and get in the best shape to play, so my advice is to keep this in mind and don't really wait for bad sessions to come to take time away from the tables - you know yourself best and you should be able to know when you need some time off..

I think you play badly and think that you are unlucky well if you watch this hand 10 times you will understand your mistake you need to reconsider your game

When I enter that bad phase of the game and I see that it persists for a few days, I change my style of play, I play differently than I do every day and after a few “thrown” tournaments I come back... worth trying.

It can be both of course. One feeds the other. If you have bad luck, maybe it is time for a break or at least try something different. Maybe try a different table if playing cash, a different format of poker, a different site if you're online. If making changes to your play does nothing, then it's time to do something else entirely for a change.

It's a bit of both. Normally when you make a wrong move, such as a bluff that was not meant to be, you will be overexposed to be resubbed or you will be dead until the river. As well as getting into flips that are not entirely necessary, such as paying with 9-9 an all in knowing that your opponent will have at least A-Q. These are things that can be avoided

When you play the hand perfectly and still lose, you shouldn't be sad. You must rest assured that it was the right decision. But when you're not sure what you're doing at the tables then you may be playing poorly.

I was the same, I am sure it was a combination of both. Had to play a little different to get out of the rut.

You have to always learn and reflect your hands again after sessions. Just like that you want to be a winning player!
