Am I playing too many freerolls?

Can one play too many freerolls? I used to get into the money quite a few times in freerolls but lately I have hit a dry patch. I dont think it has to do with my style of play or being on tilt or anything like that, I just think it might have to do with playing too many and becoming blase about it!

I am like someone obsessed and the more I dont place the more freerolls I play.....I am playing between 10 and 15 a day now and getting nowhere.

Any pearls of wisdom to share??

lol Thats crazy I am doing the same thing, maybe not 15 but I play quite a few. Yeah I think u just get burnt out on them because the style of play in them in so differnt from actual play. Ur best bet is to stick to the forum Fr like the one here on CC. Good luck with it though.

You're bound to hit dry spells in freerolls, just like any other tournament structure. Don't worry about it.

Sure, maybe you're playing too many, but the problem appears to be more with the fact that you are obsessing about your results. Don't worry about the results, just worry about your play and performance.

Maybe you just got lucky when you started playing them. Maybe you are just getting unlucky now. It's probably somewhere in between, but either way, the only thing you can do about your results is play the best you can play.

As much skill as there is in poker, luck is every bit just as important - whether it's someone not having the guts to call your 72o blind steal or someone else NOT having AA when you've got KK or hitting the K on the river against that AA.

For some stupid reason, luck has a way of running in streaks, and skill can only make up for some of the bad luck - never all of it.

I'm sure it will turn around for you soon - but 15 a day is just amazing - I can't imagine having that much time

dang !!! 15 a day hmmmm and to think I play

a lot of poker holy smokes

I am laid off right now so I have lots of time BUT

I am more of a cash player so unless the freeroll

is actually worth a decent amount to play I usually

skip it and go to the money added games, MTT's,

and cash tbls.

But yes dry spells happen all the time in fact yes I do think

you are playing to many, you also might have changed

your style and didn't realize it because you figure if you

don't do well in this freeroll there is one right around the

corner.

I don't worry about it that same thing happened to me a whlie ago but now I'm cashing in almost every freeroll I play in.Just stick with it play your game and you'll do fine.

That is alot of freerolls. I had a stretch where I cashed often then didn't do anything for awhile. I seemed to be taking to many chances during that time. I slowed my play and started doing good again. Hope your luck turns around.

I was playing as many freerolls as I could when my bankroll went bust a while back. I found myself playing way looser because there was nothing at risk and I think the more you play freerolls, it really does change the way you play (for the worse). The minute I went back to playing with cash, I started playing well (i.e. taking fewer risks and waiting for good cards) again. Patience, you'll get it back

that's a ton of poker, I would cut back to a few select tourney each day, so you don't end up burned out.

15 per day. It is a huge amount.
I play only weekend.

My job dont allow to play so many freerolls.

Maximum freerolls I ve ever played was 10 per day, only once.

Its funny you say that because we share the same sentiments. Whats funnier is that soon as i get some money i swear off of freerolls, and then i go broke and come crawling back to the freerolls. I just need to get a good job and put a thousand dollars on 4 different sites before im actually happy. Then if i go broke i should quit poker forever lol.

I play on my days off anywhere from 1 to 3 tops and by the last one I'm burnt out then I don't play for a few days I notice when I play everyday I get burnt then I just don't play for up to a week

well, i don't play so many freerolls as you do. i think they are tiring, and theyr prizes are soo small. but it's a good way to make a bank without any risk.

Those are a lot of freerolls for one day, i only play about one a day sometimes non so ill go play some cash games at ps, ever since i didn't make the freeroll club here now i gotta wait until April 1st, but when i do play i take them more seriously because i won't have another one to play in, and i have made it in the money more often now, so i would advice you to cut back and only play in the better paying ones or take a breaks from poker maybe a week or two.

Me Too!! I'm playing around 12 to 15 freerolls a day, and although I am usually just making it to the money, it's also usually only for a couple of cents.

That said, it all adds up, and free money is free money

I find that when I have say, 3/4 or more freerolls on the go at once, they get a bit frantic, and probably don't make the money, but with just a couple on the go at a time, I do tend to get to the money more often.

Not gonna make me a millionaire, but it keeps me entertained, and more importantly, I still get a thrill from, and enjoy playing them.

no your not playing to many freeroll's, simply put there's never enough, i know what your going thru i was exactly the sameway, your evolving as a player and a person, as a player your learning new betting skills and playing newer different possible hands, as a person your learning new things everyday, so in the immortal words of the great jedi master Yoda " You must unlearn what you have learned " in other words stop thinking so much, erase everything from your mind that you know about poker and start over from scratch, and as far as freeroll's are concerned practice does make perfect

I feel ya on the freerolls. I play quite a few freerolls during the week and weekend. I think the quality of play is deteriorating with so many new online players using the freerolls to learn to play. You have to play the freerolls to build a bank if you are broke, but once you get enough to play at a table or a MTT, SNG, leave the freerolls to a minimum. They seem to hurt your game. Since it is free you play things in a different way when you are not risking any money. Hence the word donk was born from freerolls. X

Freerolls are the best way to work on things with a minimum of investment, other than time. Only you can say what those things are and how much your time is worth. All varieties of play can be found at all freeroll and low-mid level play. So you won't escape that by eliminating freerolls. Dry spells come to all at all levels. At least there you are not negatively affecting your BR. This too shall pass!!

As long as playing 15 FRs a day doesn't collide with the rest of your life, go for it.
Losing streaks are quite normal, sometimes you'll never know why....
But I prefer having a bad run playing FRs than donking it off in buy-in tourneys.
If you feel that you are burning the candle from both ends - stick to the CC-Frs.

Just thought I'd also add, that the donks seem to play ALL freerolls, whether it be a $1000 or a $10 one. Right from the start, they get 2 cards and they're all-in. I agree with xpokerchic, freerolls are played differently and can hurt your game for cash tourneys, if you're not careful. Just have to remember that they are free, and people will play in a "don't give a damn" way.

i usaly only play the uk fulltilt torney and 1or2 on carbon and sometimes pokerstars but in my mind it gets boring playing freerolls because u play a
really good game and do really well but get donked out or tilt just b4 the money just l8ly i feel the same way just cant win nuffin like today i got into the top 60 out of 1500 on carbon only to lose to some moron who went all in with 89 off suit and i had kk and and per usual he went and hit a straight just frustrating just l8ly id rather deposit and play in buy in torneys not so many donk and a much better game

freerolls are good, but you're going to lose to some crazy hands. Need to track what you're losing to. If you're getting beat by better hands, problem may be with you. Otherwise, lots of lottery players (especially in the 1st hour).

I spent a couple of years swimming in FRs, made a bit and learned a lot, but now I find my time is better spent buying in for a good return. FRs can take over your life because they are always running. I would rather play less for more than more for less, if you see wot I mean... but for early intense learning, FRs all day and nite can be good.
