Difference Between Poker Player and Compulsive Gambler

Hello everyone, I would like the one who can give me their opinions about the difference between a poker player and a Ludopata.
In my case I do not consider that a poker player has something to do with the gambling that is why I believe addiction to all types of game, my query refers to my family calling me or seeing me as a ludopath already They even say that I only think of poker

Totally agree. Being able to set a limit is very key.

Also, utilizing different styles. Not just a player that 5x the pot preflop just because, or gets drunk and plays crazy. A poker player plays to make a profit, sets a goal, and can walk away. A compulsive gambler doesn't know how to walk away.

Obviously, poker is a gamble. Poker player a gambler. But for me personally poker is a hobby, an opportunity to have fun but nothing more. I actually play only freerolls or tournaments where buy-in is not significant to me.

first ty teach me a new english word - i need google ludopath
no sure can label poker players, compulsive gamblers - ludopath
many player i know never play with own money, example CC & radio station freerolls, sites like replay poker etc... these poker players enjoy the game & competition, not wagering monies - gambling
if i was a ludopath gal, i'd be play slots, wager horses, roulette etc where can gamble real & better than playin poker

People say i am a addict but i dont put money on sites just use the money i win in freerolls and forums. I just like the thrill of out playing other poker players. If you play more than you can afford that can be a problem.

Do you also gamble a good bit on you state lottery and also drive a good ways to play poker with other people. Do you flip a coin on anything to make decisions like head you pay for both dinners or tails I don't pay at all. What I'm saying is it will be more than just only poker for it to become a problem and if have kids they will pick it up also just starting with coin flips. Kid comes home starving cause he flipped heads you give me your lunch, LOL

First of all,being addicted to something it's not always a bad thing,take for example,being addicted to a healthy lifestyle,or being addicted to learning something that's gonna bring you fulfillment and joy in the future and if you're not wasting money,than go ahead and play as much as you want without caring what other people say.

As a kid i was "addicted" to playing sports,i became a pretty good athlete.Then as i became an adult,i became "addicted" to making money,i did very well,,,,, i learned,as an "addictive" personality,if i can channel my actions to more positive things,i can move mountains.

a good/winning poker player is calculating, looking for value, and observant among many other qualities. a compulsive gambler is in it for the fun of it always thinking they're going to win it back. this person doesn't know when to step away unless forced to do so with lack of funds

My personal opinion between a poker player and "ludopata" or compulsive gambler would be only what I experienced myself. As I got better I would enter higher buyin tournaments and sit n gos. Sometimes I broke even, sometimes ahead but those loses were big also. Bankroll Management wasn't something I really considered too much (I would just take whatever I had extra after paying bills etcetera) and that was my bankroll. Also, I started getting into the slots. I started out playing them on the way out of the casino as just a last ditch effort to hit it on the way out. After I actually did hit a couple of jackpots ($1500+) I was hooked on the slots. So it then became I would hit the slots on the way in and the way out. Yeah. I probably was spending way too much money but I always made sure all of my Life Needs were dealt with before going to the casino.

There's compulsive gambling, then there's compulsive gambling with money you can't afford to lose.

I think though even winning players, who play too much are addicted and could still have negative life results.

A losing player who plays for fun is probably higher up happier scale, than a reg addict who can't get off it.

In cash game sessions you must have an allotted amount of time you can play and don't go past it whether up or down on the table. Say an hour. Your tourney buy-ins should be around 3-5% of your roll. $100 bankroll $3-$5 entry fees. Finally, discipline and restrain any impulses.

I think pure gamblers play for the thrill of an easy win and they continue play no matter the outcome or the lost money.Plus they feel very happy with a short term small win although they are losing overall. IMHO also many poker players seek for the gambling part of the game.

With proper volume and a healthy bankroll management you can lower the variance and if you follow the correct math ,they say , you will be profitable in games like poker and blackjack.

Every poker player worth his/her salt has a little gamble in them. I have never met a player who doesn't also play another form of gambling. Cards, the ponies, even hard core slot players, they all have had a win that somehow has changed the way they look at gambling.
