Poker is a sport just as much as darts or pool. It involves hype and adrenaline like other sports. Then you need to stay calm and battle yourself as well as your opponent and surroundings. And it helps to be fit in poker as well. Everything about poker is a sport..

What do you mean by sport..eh sport?
The word has different meanings.

Poker is not an athletic activity. If you can eat while engaged in such an activity you can call it a game...a non-athletic one.

Depends how you look.Sports games are games where physical energy is spent in the first place and poker is a game where mental energy is spent in the first place.Both games are gambling.

cards, chess and darts are games..

"Sport includes all forms of competitive physical activity or games which, through casual or organised participation, aim to use, maintain or improve physical ability and skills"

So i would say no, unless there is another definition that you subscribe to.

Most people who have success at poker are fat retarded cretins or lucksacks with no abilities or self discipline at all.

Poker is definitely a sport, yes, there is some luck involved, but that is the same for any sport. In any other sport, there are lucky bounces, bad calls, tips, fumbles, ect. that can change the course of a game just like a bad card can change the course of a hand. But, just like in other sports, the best rise to the top (and need some luck to get there). Have you ever noticed that in professional sports that the worst team can beat the best team on a given day, however, over the course of many games ... the better team prevails. Same as in poker, some donk can get a good player by making a bad move and getting lucky on certain hands, but over the long run, tge good player is going to bank against the donk.

This being said. There are sports that just don't fit with the Olympics. Poker is one such sport, but I could envision some smart promoter setting up a poker Olympics to rival the wsop. That would be quite the event. We should come up with the events and think about how player pools could be determined on here!

Poker is not a sport it is a game. In sports the biggest part you need to win is to have the best skill and sometimes a little bit of luck. In poker a lot of skill will sure help a lot but you still will need luck to succeed.

Today poker has been featured as a sporting modality. Although this is a reality, it sounds strange that poker is a sport but it is. Lady luck is present in all sports. It just does not require physical exertion, as in most traditional sports, but rather mental. A game where, similarly, does not require physical effort, but mentally, is chess. Therefore, some authors like to compare it with poker. But it's still very different from each other. The core of the ability to play chess lies definitely in skill.

I don't particularly consider it a sport, I consider it a game, sport there must be some physical interaction between 2 or more competitors, games don't necessarily need that ... I consider poker a profession, but sport definitely not.

I think it is. Is a sport of the better prepared like any other sport. Mentally and physically. It is exhausting mentally, physically you have to be prepared and as in any sport without it you do not reach the end. The first place, yes, depends on all this, and a lot of luck.Disciple and pacience is imperative. So many, many of us will treat as a game just because we don't have high performance and many more never will.So is easier to leave to chance.

Poker is a game, even the games with a very modest pedigree for being a "sport" involve some sort of at least modest physical exertion ... such as bowling or Ping Pong ... I love poker but sitting on your butt for hours on end doesn't qualify as sport or make you an athlete any more than playing video games makes you one ...

I don't think it is a sport, but it does involve skill to play. I think it's more of a hobby then a sport.
