I agree with Webster, it's a game. :)
I'm really not sure why some consider it a sport.. Nobody considers our euchre tournaments a sport. lol

For me, poker is more of an entertainment or a hobby, but of course there is also a competitive process, especially in tournaments.

Man, I'm a big fan of poker and I do consider it a sport, we can say that if you bet something and it's a game of luck, but the mental balance that I obtained and use in my work, in addition to valuing myself professionally, added values, such as thinking well before acting,,,,,, was very impulsive.

It's a toss up for me. I guess I could look at it as a non physical sport.

I don't consider poker as a sport. It has a lot of chance included. I don't think it's a good thing for the game that should be considered as a sport.

No. It is a card game. Like blackjack is a card game, not a sport.

Look at him, he is so fit, he plays sports, to be exact he plays poker!

As chess is considered a sport, than why poker should not be?

It sounds weird to me because I have always associated sport with physical type of training. So, tell that poker or chess players do sport while actually playing poker/chess (probably sitting in a chair) is funny to me.

But on the other hand, poker, as other sports, has competitive side.

In modern life, everything is a sport. Even in the morning when you go to the toilet.

It depends how big your stack is. All that fumbling with chips is very aerobic and going all in a few times might be considered a bit of resistance exercise.

A Game is not Always a "Sport"

I suppose it depends on how you define the word, sport.

I think, technically, doing something "for sport", just means doing it for fun

But, by the modern definition of athletic competitions, poker doesn't really fit the popularly accepted standard of a "sport"

I do not consider poker to be a sport, as my definition of a sport requires there to be some sort of physical exertion during the activity. I feel many people wouldn't consider any other card games or board games a sport, but because of poker's popularity it makes it seem sport-like only in that quality. I definitely say no though. No matter how much I love poker, I don't feel like it means I can compete with the likes of Tom Brady, Lebron James, or Usain Bolt.:D
