I don't think high IQ is absolutely necessary to be successful in poker. But it should definitely help.

Of course, a good poker player will have a high IQ, but he must also be fearless and have a strong nervous system.

Good morning to everyone. I don't think intelligence is necessary, what is needed is knowledge about the subject or maybe I'm crazy and intelligence and knowledge are the same thing...

When you understand that poker is a game of repetition and know how to always apply the same moves in certain moments and situations, you will see that even a simple animal can be profitable in poker.
But to be a differentiated player like the big names in poker you need to study a lot and in this case having a high IQ helps a lot.

It depends how high IQ you are talking about. Intelligence helps, but so does EQ and having lots of experience and learning poker theory.

What you need to play poker is to take time and be a disciplined person in every sense when it comes to playing, betting and managing your bank. That is essential since if you follow these steps you will obtain a lot of experience and in turn many profits.

I think many players rely not only on these factors in poker, you will simply have a greater advantage over other players, I think a person who has been playing poker for a long time and is developing will be more successful than just someone who has a high IQ

Well you probably don't need it in order to play, but it certainly can't hurt.

I'm in shock. My jaw has hit the floor.

Anyone noticed that one of the attributes of winning players is that they are smart (definitely above average intelligence)
You are right. The final WPT tables are filled with young former engineers, bank and investment management, risk analysis experts, currency analyst, and the odd lawyer. Calculating math formulas in their heads are essential in their professions. They are cool as cucumbers, can control their emotions (at least while playing a hand), and they are totally aware of their own and other's body language. The old guys just have poker in their veins!

In order to win at poker, you need to have many good habits and skills. I think that with a high IQ you will quickly master the skills you need and achieve the desired result faster than with an average IQ, but you can master the necessary habits and skills even with an average IQ, your path will just be longer and you will probably have to put in more effort to achieve your desired goals!!!

You do, but when you see the hands that people play and get there, you start wondering if it's the opposite, just as George says, whatever my instinct is it is wrong, I'm going to do

Of course you need intelligence and wisdom. To deal with other players and adversity, to deal with good luck nd bad the same on the next hand.

I think everyone has the potential to enjoy playing poker and win a bit of money here and there. Very, very few of us should be trying to win a lot of money playing poker. 🙂

I think that great wisdom is not necessary, but wisdom is always useful
If you go to a casino and bet on the number 5 at roulette, what could happen?

So your answer is obvious, of course yes, but in the short term and if you continue to play, you will lose everything afterwards.

I do not think that it's necessary. What I think it is, is to dedicate a lot of time and have a lot of discipline.

It's a fact everyone can play poker even without brain at all, and they can win sometimes very experienced guys. But nevertheless, persons who play 'with brain' will definitly play much better on a long distanses🙂

I would not think a high IQ would matter. It would help I am sure but I don't think it would be necessary.

I think it helps a lot, but discipline, luck and courage are key in my opinion! And a great sense of humor and intuition, too! Good luck and have a beautiful day!
