Do You Play Poker for Fun?

First, get rich. Then get to understand - why they play for fun. I do not understand that. But I am not rich either.

Yes, I actually play poker for fun. But still, poker is my favorite hobby and I understand that my success depends on my patience, experience and skill. So every time I analyze my game and improve my skills, despite the fact that I play poker for fun.

Poker is game of emotions. If you like the game and have fun but you don't have time or will to learn how to play properly you can play as gambling. There is nothing wrong with that as long as you do not risk money which you can't afford to loose.

Now my game turns out to be simple entertainment, although I play to cut the dough

Playing for fun can be a game between friends with no money!

In contrast, when money is at stake, even the wealthiest will always play to win!

First is the desire to win, to be the protagonist, to succeed and second, the fun.

Most players begin to play poker as a hobby, in the course of time you will see if it is still a hobby, an income, work or a trade.

Most of those who play poker are amateurs, some continue to play for fun and just to pass the time, but there are other types of players, professionals who want to make a career with this game and make a living with 100% poker.

Now regarding your question why the rich play poker if they already have money, you must understand that many players go beyond money that means that they play for competition and the satisfaction of the glory of winning at a competitive level.

Hi, yes, it makes fun and obviously it is a game that takes a lot in order to be on the winning side. Reading skills, strategic approach to street playing, maths in some kind of way - and last but not least the good old intuition to make hero calls and folds.

Im older in my 70s and when online poker started i played alot of sites over the years,till the us changed that.I had 1800 dollars in neteller and it took 6 months to get it,but i got it all,and was not sure i would.I took it very serious and actually made some money every month.The online game has changed so much,that i dont play much anymore,and for sure not the stakes that i did back then.I play just for fun and alot of times anymore its not even fun.I sure liked the old days alot better

I basically play to win money, but playing against a software and with recreational people, is more difficult than winning the lottery

Do I Play Poker For Fun?

Yes, I guess, sort of. However, saying that out loud seems to somewhat cheapen how I really feel about it. It kind of seems to imply that you do not take it seriously and perhaps are not real good at it (maybe I just have some kind of guilt complex here...lol).

Having said that, I think the real reason I play is because I have fallen in love with the game over the last 10 - 15 years and I enjoy the challenge and relaxation it provides. I consider myself a "late bloomer", I had absolutely no interest in poker (perhaps that is understating it, I scoffed at it) until I was 45ish. Being introduced to it by a new girlfriend and being a numbers guy, I caught on pretty quickly and became intrigued. Very early, I had some success. Today, I am always expecting to have a respectable finish in every game I play (of course that does not always happen), but I always try to give it my best effort, and I am always looking to improve my game.

I still have a day job which occupies most of my time, so I do not need to play poker for the money but I certainly use it as a means of keeping score and evaluating my game. I typically play freerolls and small stakes games online (buy-ins $20 or less) with a once or twice a year foray to a casino for a $100ish buy-in game.

I am pleased to report that I am comfortably positive $'s for my poker career. On the other hand as they say... I would estimate my hourly wage over my "career" at about $.25 an hour*.

Perhaps in retirement (assuming I have any mental faculties left), I might up the stakes and improve my "hourly wage". So perhaps I can view this time spent playing as a bit of investment (dare to dream)? My investment adviser will allow me to build that into my retirement income stream, so whether that happens or not, I have enjoyed every second of it (almost...lol).

Bottom Line - Yes, I guess, I play for fun!

I play poker for fun. The most important thing in poker is money. I wouldn't play poker without money.

I play for fun and to earn extra money. Nothing better than doing something that amuses you and at the same time earn some extra money

I play for fun but always hoping to keep making money.

I play to keep busy in retirement. I play to win and study the game. I'm profitable over all but its chump change.

I play for fun. I play really low stake tournaments, so it's not like I'm making or losing a lot of money. I love the adrenaline of playing though. Going deep in a tournament, winning flips, getting the nuts.. you name it, I love the game.

I’m not at all rich, but I play, for pleasure, and the pleasure that comes to me in prizes in freerolls.

If I had a lots of money I wouldnt be playing poker - it' s that simple. Why rich people play is beyond me, but, hey - it' s their money.

I like tournaments. They are fun. Cash games are more of a grind for me. Cash tends more about outwitting a specific player than getting through many players.
