Do you think poker still has a bad reputation?

Well before it is misinterpreted I will say my point of view, In movies, games, series, general culture, etc. poker is seen as an addiction where those who play it are mostly criminals such as traffickers, mafia, murderers that everything that involves playing it is a perdition, that for example for older people continue to think the same since it has been instilled in them that the poker or card game is bad, which are illegal gambling where several governments prohibit or restrict poker, so I ask you according to your point of view, does poker no longer have a bad reputation? For me it is a sport like chess.

here in my country it's still bad. people don't see poker as a profession. but the world is very globalized and many ways of working are appearing. this will ease this transition. even the pandemic advanced this process many years. because people have to find ways to earn money at home.

For some people it has a dark element to it. But for me it is just a game played for money. It reminds me of the stock market.

I think for some it will always be in a negative light. Just like some see bingo players as being old ladies. I do see it a lot like chess…but I don’t see either of them as a sport.

When was televised in early 2000, it was given more legitimacy. People could see what was going on besides some place with a doorman who ask for the password to enter. When I'm in Vegas playing, both cash table and tournaments, visitors are playing for the nostalgia. Either they played home games, watched on TV or played online.

From that period of time to now, has changed the perception of poker. Not sure of the percentage of those who feel more positive towards the game, I'd venture to say it has gain more acceptance since being broadcast than any other factor.

No it doesn 't have a bad reputation. Like all the card games it is played from all people and there are clubs where players meet and play their games, and events where players from all the planet are playing online or live withouτ discriminations.

I think the fact that poker is still taking place in same place as slots makes it everlasting problem. Until the place to play poker is changed, it will never change among the general population.

I hope poker will be treat as a sport soon. Poker is not gambling at all. Here is my explanation.

Any sport has a buy in or a registration fee. Then all of the contestants will register and have a place when they won like 1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place and it is not taxable. Same with poker tournaments. Am I right guys?

Cash games are another issue.

I think a lot of people are already playing poker around the world and his reputation has improved. A lot of literature on poker is published and many understand that this is not a game of luck (although luck is needed there), namely skill and experience of the game

If, like chess, it is considered a sport-science because you require a certain level of mental dexterity, a good strategy and tactics like other contact sports, if you don't have a strategy and you don't know some important fundamentals of poker, you're not going to get far, you need some strategy and being able to modify or maintain it with respect to the players you face. It's not just luck, it's knowing how to play, that's why professional players usually win or go far in tournaments.

I think the 1st thought b people who dont know the game is oh it's just gambling and only people who play it are degenerate gamblers. The good part about today is many have come to realize there is more to the game. For most it is just fun and played recreationally. Other have come to realizes there is skill involved as well. I think the game has a ways to go but will hopefully be recognized for what it is. A game of skill.

Reputation of poker

That differs from country to country and from person to another. From where i come ( Morocco) a muslim and a bit conservative country, families here or persons still consider Poker as one of the worst thing a person can play. It's a No Go here. I don't know when it's gonna change, but i hope it would be soon.

In my opinion poker does not have a bad reputation, but I know that I'm the minority here where I live. When I say I play poker a lot of people tell me that they don't like gambling and tell me a sad history about some relative with gambling addiction.

Yes because the people who run the sites are a bunch of grease balls taking way to much rake ripping their customers off.

People don't like gambling because these guys charge so much rake, that barely anyone wins.

You have the odd guy that can make money playing, than the other 95/100 are bleeding cash being in general degens.

Yes I believe it does.

For people that have never been to a casino or played poker at all the stigma is definitely still there. With gambling still being illegal in many places, and the component of addiction I'm not sure it will ever be fully accepted everyone. That's okay though, because those of us who put the time in to study and improve our game know the difference. The difference between degenerates and those of us who just love the game

the stigma of poker being just pure gambling have become less thru the years because of so many streamers and youtube videos

hopefully, few more years it will be regarded as sport
