Does your family support you in poker or not?

My sisters and brothers don't believe I'm going to be a winner at poker one day, but I love the game and I believe in myself, and I don't care what they say👍

My family don't know the extent I play or how much I spend. It is important to make sure you do not spend more than you can afford.

I find it very difficult to work poker around a full time job with the long tournaments which can affect your health.

If your spending within your means it does not matter too much but need to make time for other things. Parents opinions can have more weight than siblings.

My husband and I are each other's biggest supporters, with my father-in-law a close second or maybe first place tie lol. I don't think the rest of my family really understand it and are more worried about the risks associated with gambling, not really knowing what and how I play.

My parents don't really like poker, but they are not against me playing. You need to do what you love and keep believing in yourself.

You are a confident person, why do you need support. I wish you the achievement of your plans. We must be ready to answer for all our actions ourselves, regardless of whether we were supported in this or not.

My dad waits via text for updates while I play. HUGE supporter. Most of the rest of my family doesn't care. Neither good or bad....... BUT MY WIFE....... not only does she support me, she has become a great player herself. Often times on the weekend we are Sid eby side playing freerolls together. It certainly makes it more fun to be watching each other.

I think my family is sceptical about me playing poker regularly. At the moment, I'm mostly playing freerolls and low stakes with any winnings I might get etc. When I demonstrate that I'm not technically gambling away any large amounts of "my own money" they accept it as me just doing something to kill time.

If I was to stump up £50 to go and play a smaller tournament in the casino or something, they would consider that reckless and irresponsible and would not at all be supportive.

However, if I was to come home with a win, then they get very confilicted. I remember once when I went to the casino when I was about 20 or so and went in with about £40 and came home the following morning (me and my friends were in the casino from 9pm to 4am in the end) with £300. It wasn't huge amounts of money, but you could see the conflict raging in my mothers mind. It was basically "gambling, bad. More money, good. Confused" lol

Yes. Not financially, but they understand that this is an activity for the mind and they support me.
Try to stay focused at the games so you don't spend more than you earn and always trying to play with a clear mind also helps.

My parents are pretty strict and typical academics focused background. At a point in my life, my mom basically disowned me when I announced that I'd be dropping out of college to pursue poker full time. Over some time, I actually taught my dad a little how to play poker online and he started enjoying playing it recreationally. Once I got him converted, my mom sort of begrudgingly accepted it as my career. Nowadays, they no longer care too much that I do this full time although my mom will still make a remark that I should have gotten a job or become a doctor or something. It also helps that I've done fairly well in poker for the last 17 years.
