The ability to abstract from the environment is an important component of success in poker. Sometimes music in headphones helps out. But sometimes the right decisions are helped by the surrounding stressful situation. It is important to develop a sense of intuition and not to be led by emotions.

They totally accept that I play. They don't encourage me, they don't criticize me.

Getting support from your family when playing poker can be important for your overall well-being and success as a player. Here are some suggestions on how to approach this:

  1. Open and Honest Communication: Start by having an open and honest conversation with your family about your interest in playing poker. Explain why you enjoy it, your goals, and the level of commitment you're willing to put into it. Address any concerns they may have and reassure them that you are responsible and aware of the risks involved.
  2. Educate Them about Poker: Many misconceptions surround poker, and some people may view it purely as a form of gambling. Take the time to educate your family about the strategic aspects of the game, the skill and study required, and the professional players who have achieved success in the field. Help them understand that poker is not solely based on luck.
  3. Set Boundaries: Establish clear boundaries with your family regarding your poker activities. This may involve agreeing on specific days or times dedicated to playing, ensuring that it doesn't interfere with family commitments or responsibilities. By demonstrating your commitment to balance and responsibility, you can ease any concerns they might have.
  4. Share Your Progress: Regularly update your family on your poker progress, achievements, and any positive experiences you have had. This can help them see that you are improving and taking the game seriously. Sharing success stories and milestones can also help them gain confidence in your ability to handle the game responsibly.
  5. Involve Them in the Process: If your family is open to it, involve them in your poker journey. Invite them to watch you play in local tournaments or explain the strategies and decision-making processes behind your moves. This can help them understand the game better and foster a sense of support and interest in your poker pursuits.
  6. Demonstrate Responsible Bankroll Management: Show your family that you are practicing responsible bankroll management, which involves setting limits on how much money you allocate for poker and adhering to them. Being transparent about your financial decisions can help alleviate any concerns they may have about the potential risks associated with the game.
  7. Show Dedication to Personal Growth: Emphasize your commitment to personal growth and improvement as a poker player. Discuss how you study the game, read books, watch training videos, or participate in coaching sessions. This demonstrates that you are actively investing time and effort to develop your skills and increase your chances of success.
Remember, support from family may not happen instantly, and it may take time for them to fully understand and accept your poker pursuits. Be patient, empathetic, and willing to address any concerns or reservations they may have. Ultimately, showing your dedication, responsibility, and professionalism can go a long way in gaining their support.

My wife always supports me in poker, cheers for me, makes sandwiches and coffee. As for parents, they never accepted poker as a sports game, more like a casino where you just lose money.

Some people around me have a bit of old thinking and can't assimilate poker as a sport or a way to earn money!

My loved ones are skeptical about my passion for poker, but their attitude does not affect my game in any way. Moreover, for me it is an additional reason to continue playing and achieve good results.

the game of poker is sometimes unpredictable, a good start requires a middle game and an impatient finish, this is the normal course of the game

I'm an adult so no, but I'm an independent type of thinker in general, the most they do is want me to do a million other things when I'm trying to play, go here or there, do this, do that lol

Everyone I play encourages me to play better. We talk about hands and mistakes and thoughts on what was going on.

Most of my Friends and Family that do not play poker, think I am dabbling in something that is going to cast me into massive amounts of debt! But it is hard to explain to them that even after playing for 20 years, I have still have not made a deposit on-line, so how can I lose money? Even playing Live games in Pubs, clubs and Casino's I am still in profit proven by the fact that I have won more than I have lost.
I have had several holidays paid for with my Live Poker winnings, and have a special bankroll that I keep well hidden from everyone, except from my Wife who knows where I keep it.
But the biggest problem is that many don't understand that you can come away from a poker game finishing ITM and making a profit without actually finishing in 1st place, I only ever try to make the money bubble in any game I play, and only ever think about winning the Tournament when I make the Final table, before that of course I have already achieved what I wanted to do and that is finishing ITM.
Anything else is a Bonus!

My wife understands and supports me plus she is the bean counter in our home and I run on a firm poker budget. My parents and siblings think I am a degenerate gambler frittering my money away and wasting time. My friends pretty much all play some online poker and we have a house league and play live every two weeks,

neither one nor the other, starting over, I started playing poker myself, and I don’t have any irl friends who are interested in poker, so for me this is just my own motivation and attempts to become better as solo

Hi.
My loved ones always support me in all my affairs. For me, poker is a hobby, entertainment, and no one around me is against the fact that I have fun from time to time and distract myself from hard work.

It is a mix of both, if I win money they are very impressed but in general they do not really understand.

Mostly irrelevant. But those who don't have a clue just think it's gambling.

They don't have a say. While I don't spend too much money for the poker, for that time they don't interested to this. I mainly play freerolls, and little buy-in tournaments.
