I find many words of poker advice can be interpreted in multiple ways and depending on the situation it speaks to everyone a bit differently.

This quote is still relative in poker today. A bluff is always harder against tougher/more riskier opponents. Playing for value is also risky due to high variance. Betting too high in order to shake your opponent sometimes has value in it.

In my experiences hero calls are hard to catch. This can be true inside and outside of poker. Weather you are right or wrong, sometimes having gut instinct on the situation can pay off in the long run.
