I just finished reading a book on poker and this stuck with me, If you treat poker like a game you will never succeed, treat poker like a business.

"A winner is big enough to admit his mistakes, smart enough to profit from them, and strong enough to correct them." -- John Maxwell

Poker is not just a game of cards, but a reflection of life itself. As the legendary Doyle Brunson once said, "Poker is a game of people, not cards." The psychological aspect is just as important as the hand you're holding. Phil Hellmuth, known for his fiery temperament, reminds us that "If you’re not playing poker for fun, then you’re playing for the wrong reasons." Another classic comes from the great Chip Reese: "In poker, you can’t control the cards, but you can control your behavior." And let's not forget the wisdom of the infamous Amarillo Slim, who stated, "Poker is a skill game, not a game of chance." These quotes capture the essence of poker — a perfect blend of strategy, psychology, and self-discipline.

"If you reraise a raiser, and he doesn't raise you back, you know he has kicker problems." -- Crandall Addington

"Limit poker is like a job. As long as you're a winning player, the more hours you put in, the more money you'll earn." -- Lou Krieger

"Poker is a combination of luck and skill. People think mastering the skill part is hard, but they're wrong. The trick to poker is mastering the luck." -- Jesse May

“I respect anyone who pulls a chair at a poker table, regardless of the stakes.” “Doyle Brunson”

"Manipulating people is what's so fun about poker. I love that you can just look into someone's eyes and lie—and it's perfectly acceptable." -- Cheryl Hines

I prefer this quote:

“If you can't spot the pigeon in your first half hour at the table, then you're the pigeon.” — Matt Damon,

"Poker may be a branch of psychological warfare, an art form or indeed a way of life—but it is also merely a game, in which money is simply the means of keeping score." -- Anthony Holden

"They say poker is a zero-sum game. It must be, because every time I play my sum ends up zero." -- Max Shapiro

This quote was all in my head, but I could swear that I actually heard it...my mother was a very good and avid poker player. On the anniversary of her passing, I went to the casino to play poker before going to visit at the cemetery. I usually go alone, so I talk out loud to her gravestone. I told her that I went to play poker in her honour...and lost $200. I really thought I heard her laughing and say that "When you play to honour someone, you're supposed to WIN!!!" I know I may be losing it, but it seemed real to me.

"Bond didn't defend the practice. He simply maintained that the more effort and ingenuity you put into gambling, the more you took out." -- Ian Fleming

“If a player wants to have you fund their poker career, then you need to look at the reasons they are broke.” -- James Guill
