i belive this question was posted before the post requirements took effect, but anyway, a lot of different opinions here indeed, i like reading all of them because it makes you think, no matter what we'd of done

WOW... alot of really rookie-ish answers to this one. Is this due to the new posting requirements for the freerolls now?
Although not many, there are definite situations where you'd want to be folding pre-flop with AA. And to say "The more callers the merrier"???? Seriously,.. you've got to be kidding???
I think the laydown was a good one, although a call could be good too, albeit a bit risky at the time. Hands that do well in a multi-way pot vs. AA being stuff like J-Ts,but with point being made above, alot of the outs for this hand could well possibly be out already on the table with all the 'allins', OR maybe someone wanting to gamble, knowing that their 7-8s is now looking real good (like the 3rd guy in for example). Can't say I'd ever want to be 4th allin with AA, if in fact I was needing the hand to hold up for me. AA against 3 random hands isn't doing anywhere near as good as it would be against just one or two opponents, but maybe in this case you've got a hand that might really now be giving it some trouble?
Against 3 typical hands here that would be in on this pot, AA ends up being less than a 50% favourite to win the hand. (ie. JJ, K-Qs, 7-8s).

go for it. Are you here to survive or to win! IMO

I think the theory is if you survive and everyone else doesnt, then you win..

No I didnt get into the money. Finished about 9 places outside the money.

Got so short stacked I shoved with 9 10 suited and hit pocket Aces ironically

It was your choice. your decision, once made it can't be retrieved, BUT, 1st hand has nothing to do with the decision (or shouldn't) The idea is to get in with the best possible starting hand, last time I checked it was A-A You stated they would of held, there is your answer.

why fold

never fold aces preflop why would it have crossed your mind to lay that hand down? the reward totally out weighs the risk in that senario. you say you would have won the hand plus you would have a way better they average chip stack. never fold aces preflop.

thress no way Im folding AA preflop I dont care how many callers.
AA isn't a great hand with 3 and deffinily 4-5-6 callers..but when ya
look at the board when the cards are dealt and your AA would have been good. you'll kicking yourself for the next few hands and prolly tilt out anyway. AA..Gotta move with it. 1st hand or last hand.

Is this completely insane ?

I was in a $3 MTT and I picked up AA on my very first hand.

I was on the button so things looked great till three players before me went all in.

My mates could not believe I folded.

As it happens I would have won, but I felt that to put all my chips in on the very first hand with no knowledge of the table was suicidal.

Did I completely lose the plot or can anyone else understand my way of thinking..

you did absolutely the right thing by folding ur aces here. 4way, AA is a huge underdog to win.

p.s.: if i ever hear another 'it was only X to buyin' excuse for pisspoor poker, im gonna vomit. correct poker is correct poker, regardless of the stakes/buyin levels.

And yet again..

Tonights CC freeroll.

blinds 20/40

I have AA on the BB. Player UTG raises to 100.

Folds round to me. I raise to 315. He calls.

Flop comes over 3 8 J so I raise to 800
He pushes all in
I call

He turns over pocket 9s

Turn comes over a Q giving him a straight draw.

He hits a 9 on the river and bang, I am gone..

AA must hate me..

Fcumred I've already experience the same situation and I fold my AA too. I think it's the right think to do. When there'are more than 2 opponents AA lose the strength.

That approach has saved my ass. In the first 5 hands, it's all out warfare. Call may be the correct move, but sometimes you like your seat and want to stay a while. It's a matter of preference and there is no need to slash at each other over someone humbling themselves for your advice.

So you cash a little lower than you would have with that payoff- at least you cash. If I didn't have another tourney lined up for at least 45 minutes, I might have folded, too. With only 3 or 4 heads- even I couldn't resist calling usually. Thanks for posting the question.

Yes, thats true, but I am trying to learn discipline and control, and OK it was only $3, not a fortune, but the principle surely must be the same for a 10 cent game or a $10,000 one.

If I can get away from the "Oh stuff it, its only a small buy in" mentality then surely that will help me out in the future.

I wouldnt use the argument "I can always join another comp" if I was playing in the WSOP so surely I shouldnt use it online in small stakes...

my friend has lost with AA so many times i couldnt tell you but most likely its donkeys going allin on the first hands with garbage with AA the odds are in your favor i understand disiplince and trying to get that but odds are more important

I have a very good Friend who makes a living playing poker who says early on and very late in a tourney its best to just call, or lay down, AA, but rarely does he push them.
