If poker is more important to you than anything else in life then I think you can call it an addiction.

This includes family, work, friends, etc. but the biggest enemy is money and the associated loss of control, which drives many people into gambling addiction.

If you're spending rent, car payment, or any other bill money to play poker then you've got a problem.
I don't think anyone literally depends on you getting addicted. They're not drug dealers just casino/cardroom owners. Plus, there's enough players who are bankrolled to keep the industry floating around for decades to come.
I also think there's enough freerolls out there to keep players playing without the risk of gambling addiction.

addiction is a very dangerous thing so you have to be very careful about it. If you constantly want to play for real money and deposit money into poker, then you'd better refrain from doing it and play free tournaments. If you can't, then you're already a gambler you need to refrain

Everyone chooses their own level of poker addiction. As there is no such thing as poker addiction! People are only addicted to money.

For example, I play exactly that much and only in those tournaments where I have a realistic chance at the prize zone.

I have never been addicted to poker, I can calmly be in a poker club, communicate with people on poker topics and about life, and not sit down at the poker table and not play. If a person has a gambling addiction, then it needs to be overcome, and the sooner the better. I know a lot of people who are addicted to poker, and many of them are losing players. They lose more often than they win, they are constantly tilting and at the same time they cannot stop playing. I talked to some of them, told them how to play correctly, they listen to me and still continue to do the same thing they did before.
