I just watched the show. Wow, what a bad player that guy was. How lucky could he get? its pretty crazy really how well he ran during this final table. No wonder he lost it all so quick.

Lol youd think hed do a little bit of studying beofre he throws a couple grand in the middle of the table XD

This is really sick. If I won a such huge prize, maybe I will lost a bit, but absolutely not everything in one day, at least I hope so If I will starting to lost much money, I would leave... ;-)

Not sure why he had to have some skill? Did you watch the guy playing later levels or nearing the final few tables of the SunMill the day he won it ? He was freak'n horrendous!

it's just so odd then how could he get 2nd in one of the most prestigious tourneys in online poker, i mean poker is a long term game so maybe he just had one of those days that im sure many people have had and just could not lose but still no matter the buy in he would have been better of trying to continue to be a tourney hero instead of going off into the dark path of heads up hyper turbos

I haven't heard of anything like that recently, but as others have stated there are a wealth of stories similar to that floating around on the web. If you ever want to know why bankroll management is such an important thing all you have to do is read any of those type stories to get scared straight, lol.

Its not that unusual to see a huge loser or a newer player getting deep in SunMill.

Strange then I though poker was a skill game and Sunday Million since lots of good players play it you would have to get very very lucky to go that deep it would seem, makes it even a more of a waste for this guy to burn all that money off, but Russians historically have done dumber things such as selling Alaska or essentially giving it away

Although I agree with you, I don't think it is very common either. ESP the Sunday million. Usually, from what I have seen the names that make the ft are people with previous success in similar tourneys. .?

Yeah all of the Lithuanians whom have had success in the Sunday Million that I know of were winners before it and even bigger winners after it so that's what surprises me how a donkey can get 2nd in it, but since Russia is so much bigger in population the likelihood of someone getting 2nd by luck is better than that of Lithuania

If I won 100k I'd snap shove it all into my student loans and walk away broke again but smiling.

If I won 100k, I'd play 200nl. Don't think I'd ever play above that no matter what my roll was.

lol I'd snap pay my student loan as well then I'd sell my car and buy a better yet still used car, and probably invest in the family in some way or another and get some jobs going for my fam with a little local business or something. .. .

I might save a little for poker but not much if any lol. 100$ maybe.

I'd cash out and play 2/5 NL live. Maybe dabble in some wsop circuit events. Sure as hell not playing 5k HU SNGs. That's just stupid. Honestly, what caliber opponents did he expect to be playing at that level?

Of course there's lots of regs. who go deep in Sun.Mill too. But of the bigger buyin tourneys online the SunMill. attracts alot of recreational donks, has alot of satellites & is a fairly fast-structured tourney compared to others (effective stacks are not deep in the SunMill in later levels).

This story also makes me glad I went researching poker when I first started playing and found sites like this one and a certain other site to lurk on and learn phrases like 'bankroll management'.

So there are more chances of seeing a random run deep. Makes sense. Right on.

Poker is a game of skill, but it's a long-term skill game. Variance however can spike at any time for any of us. Just like you can run really bad, you can run really really good and win well above your competency level... but only in the short term.

The same thing happens with the WSOP ME. It's not just a "prestige" thing -- pros consider it one of the softest fields with one of the biggest paydays in poker, which is why most pros makes an effort to play it. Yet every year amateurs go deep. Remember Darvin Moon from a few years ago? He was a likable enough guy, but damn was he a terrible player. A backwoods lumberjack who was put in by his local pub league. And yet he made it HU and won millions. Jamie Gold, anyone? ME bracelet winner and winner of the single biggest ME payday in history. Also widely considered the fish at most high-stakes games. Jerry Yang? Another ME bracelet winner that hadn't done anything in poker before or since his win. Even droolers can run insanely hot and go deep.

I can even point to myself here: My first big score in poker was taking a FTP $25K Guaranteed several years ago. I think it had like 1300+ runners, took 7.5 hours to finish, and paid out like $7500 for 1st. I was only a couple years into playing online and was nowhere near the player I am today. I don't think I was a total fish by that time, but I still have the HHs from that game and a couple years back I reviewed them in a replayer. Damn did I cringe at some of the plays I made.

goodness this gives all new meaning to easy come easy go. seems like this guy is a gambler not a poker player. Poker players tend to jsut stick with poker and control their bank roll, gamblers look for long odds winners and cant help themselves

i really can see this happening to alot of people tho. if you have 148K in ur roll to lose a 5k Sng is nothing but it is also nothing to win a 5K sng because it is a small percentage of what you have. He lost it all trying to reclaim the high he felt when he won the 148k and it would never happen, even if he were to win 148k again it wouldn't be as sweet because he already had a lot, but to go from 0 to 148k that high would be amazing

Especially if youve won the ticket in a free roll

Just because you win a big tourney doesn't mean you should go play highstakes poker. Ex. Jamie Gold.

not the only one who lost the money but look at Isildur that is capable of pulling 100's of thousands of dollars in a day .... hehe
