How often do you guys hit n run? I am in the process of slowly building my bank roll and i usually leave after i double up or even 1.5x up. I leave so fast i exit out before the chips are even shipped to me then i'm looking for another table. Have you ever hit n run in live play?

Where is the logic in hit and run?

The only time it would make sense is it you moved up and won a big pot against players better than yourself. However if this is a plan it will fail, if you play with better players eventually they will crush you.

My strategy when table selecting is joining a table when it is loose with high £ pots, and leave when it tightens or the fishies bust out. Rinse and repeat.

Why would you want to leave a good table just because you have doubled your buy in??????

Did you know that even aftet you double you can still acquire more? Yup its true. Your cash isnt capped. Turn that double into a triple or a quadruple!

Why would i want to leave? I read in a book in order to secure your bank roll you leave after you doubled up. I think it was Chris Ferguson who said this because you might face a inevitable bad beat. That's exactly what happend to me i was at 10nl and doubled up to 20$ then got in a allin preflop with another player same stack as me and he had kings i had aces. Baaam! A king on the flop.

I understand how you feel and am guilty of doing this myself sometimes. But if you think about it - in the long run, your AA would hold up the majority of the time and you would quadruple up more times than you would lose your 200BB stack.

It should only become an issue if the amount of money that you have on a table falls into poor bank roll managment. Example: You are playing nl$10 on a $250 roll (25 buyins) and on one table you manage to run hot and get your stack to $100 and a player covers. In that case techicnally you should be leaving that table.

I believe that Ferguson quote was made in reference to his 0-$10k challenge, and you are right, he did it to protect his meager roll.

However, If you use correct BRM you have no need to leave a table when up x amount. And doing so when sitting at a good table is counterproductive.

I think the point has been made that hit n runs aren't necessary if you are playing solid poker, and there are bad players at your table. f you are better than some at your table, you will get more money if you stay.

However, I leave when the cards stop coming. That's just me. If I am on a heater, I am not leaving. I have cashed out many times for $900+ on a $200 table because I didn't leave when I doubled up.

Just do what feels right to you I guess. But if you leave too early, you may be limiting your potential to get lots of money.

yeah a hit and run makes no sense to me... when you have more chips at the table you have the ability to earn more money by getting maximum value from your hands. It's just like max buying into a game... you max buy to achieve max value for your hands... yeah you can lose more in the same sense, but you should be getting your money in good anyway!

sounds more like a thing my grandma would do playing the penny slots. buyin for $20, push the button, watch the electronic wheels spin until she hits for a couple bucks. cashouts and moves on to the next machine.

sounds exhausting to me no matter what the game is.

I cant see any situation where this is better than staying at the table, you either do it because -

A) The players at the table are better than you, in which case you shouldn't sit there in the first place.

Or

B) You must be playing scared money, and again I would argue that in this scenario you really shouldn't sit down at all.

Any other reason just makes less sense than those above.

Hit and run,, most of the time I'm the one who gets hit and ran over. I just can't seem to learn how to play cash ring games. I do fair to good at MMT's . At ring games I seem to always make the wrong move at the wrong time.

Don't think I ever have, online or live. For one thing it's incredibly poor form but more importantly, I've never felt the need to do it because I make a point of not playing with scared money.

I don't hit and run either. There is this guy who frequents the Detroit casinos and charity gigs who is notorious for this. If he wins one good hand, makes $100 or more, he gets up instantly after.

Everybody hates the guy, people leave the table when he sits down sometimes. To top it off, he is a smart ass too.

If you have a bankroll there is no need to hit n run. But your post was in context of slowly building a bankroll. Hit n Run is not a bad strategy at all. freerolls, hit n run and small double up sit n goes is the way to go to build a bankroll. It takes patience and tight play to build a decent bankroll. In live play, NEVER hit n run.

Nothing personal against you but I hate when people hit and run.

The way we set our games up there is no way you could hit and run. We put x amount of money in safe.........pass out chips and play till one person got it all.

That is the only true way poker should be played. Then again, you talking bout online poker and I know thats different cause its easy for some wuss to come in suckout on a hand and poof their gone.

Bottom line: do not be that person. It will actually hurt your game in the long run.....not to mention your rep.

To the bolded comment, the only time a poker game should end with one person having all the chips is a tournament. In a cash game, you have the option to cash out whenever you want. It's supposed to be that way.

I understand what your saying and I agree that would hold true for most poker rooms.

We as a club/group voted on it and over 80% of votes went the way of all games are played till one man/woman is left or the last two have the option to chop (does not happen that often).

Believe it or not it makes for a great card enviroment not to mention it makes you take your game to higher level thus making you a much better pressure player to say the least.

This takes that "did you come to play or did you come to stay to a new level".

hit n run.. wish I can say I never did it.. Usually when I do this there is something I dont like abut the table and dont think I can make a profit on. Or I am at the table and maybe I notice I am not playing my best..
not sure if this really counts as hit and run becuase I am not planning it ahead of time.

I wouldn't say that is hit and run, doesn't matter whether I am up or down at a table if the situation is unprofitable I leave. Hit and run means insta-quitting as soon as you stack someone or leaving right after a big pot.

I feel if you are doing well at a table to stay where you are.Your table image(that you earned) and mindset of the other players at the table should be enough to keep the momentum of the session.
