How to build a bankroll

not to post twice on this but also know what is a top ten and what is a junk hand... if your new to the game dont play too many junk hands...poker is all about decisions... good hands equal easy decisions... junk hands make u run into a lot of hard decisions... k10 in early to mid possition is a junk hand 9 seated ...

I think you can build a bankroll at lower limts if you play conservatively and avoid the all-in situations. There is simply not enough risk to encourage players to fold low odds hands, but if you are patient and slow play the unbeatable hands you can win some pretty nice pots.

Building your bankroll from zero is the BEST way to become a "good" poker player. It gives you a sense of value to your money because you have to grind to be able to make it to the next limit. I try to cash my bankroll as many times as possible during a 30 day period. I promise you will see a tremendous improvment in your game by just practicing this tool. Know your limits and play within your bankroll! Play the limits correctly and you are sure to find great succes, it will just take some patience and hard work!

I think playing at lower limits is like playing Paintball with marshmallow guns!!

If there's not sting everyones going to be tempted to make a run for it Rambo style!!

If it stings even a little you'll at least take the time to think about what you're about to do!!

I have already dominated the change tables, I play the dollar tables, not hard to win money when you dominate the game, if you cant dominate $5-$10, then you really are just wasting your time trying to win small change.

I won over $20,000 last year from merge Network and Micrgaming network, without having to deposit real money.

sadly, Microgaming got rid of their $500 freerolls where winning $100 in a day was very possible, and winning $100 or more in a week was just as likely.

with the current economic down turn,. the poker sites are not giving away as much money for free, making it a bit harder to build up a roll.

If you have $1, to say dont waste more than a few cents will win you a few cents, when you have $50, dont say spend less than $5 on any game, then you can only win a few dollars,

All I was trying to say, if you have $50, risk $50 and if you have $100, risk it, or else just play for fun, because you will have minor swings up and down and never get anywhere.

Bankroll Management is probably the most important thing in poker. Good players have and will again go busto because they didn't use it.

With it I completely agree. For this reason low limits are difficult enough for lifting, because in them many beginning conservative players.

You have to learn at some level. 1000 hands at $2 stakes IMO is much better then making it through a freeroll.

As my skill and br is low, I play only low limit games, I have found that I am able to increase my bankroll from these limits, by making notes, notes, and more notes on the players at the table.

And to that you will learn in freeroll? And how you there to lift the bank? In the same place small prizes are played also by people fearlessly.

To do notes in general the important thing. If still to add program Holdem maneger or Elephant that it is possible to play well in plus.

actually i tried to make notes 2 but i think it's not a very efficient way...to study those players because low-limit players usually play 4 fun and haven't got a style... so in 1 hand they might bet the size of the pot chasing a flush... and in the next hand they could min bet with the same flush draw...i think at these low-limits you just have to be patient...wait 4 some cards and value bet your good hands...so all the calling stations can have a chance to pay u off...and u just have to chill when u go all-in pre-flop with aces and get sucked out on by 87 offsuite...or something like that...

I guess I will put my .02BB in. I'm no pro or anything but, I have taken a step up to smarter level of playing and moved out of donkville. For me personally, I believe in starting at the smaller tables with a small buy in because you are going to have your ass handed to you many many times until you learn how to play. I believe in winning your way up to the next level rather than buying into it. I started with a $5 buy in at a .01/.02NL. Once I doubled up I made the move to .05 until I hit $15 then I moved to .10. Then things opened up a little bit and I hit about $30. I took $20 of that to a .25 and started to really turn it on. I earned about 50 something bucks and decided to brave the .50NL I had been having trouble with. I only bought in with $20 though. IMO .50NL is where you start finding the realistic players and you can then rely on poker skill since most of the donks are weeded out.

So I took a seat and waited for a BB to pass me so I could take a look at the game play at the table a bit. Then I started a pretty good run for me personally. I hit an all in after flopping the nut straight and got called a riverpuke. After stealing a few blinds and buying a few pots I got that guy again and left him with a penny. I blocked the chat so all I could see were ***. I could only assume things didn't work out the way he wanted. So now I had about $73 and I suddenly noticed that I had established a table image because everybody folded to me. One time I decided to test the strength of my image and 3BB'd with an 84o. Fold, fold, fold, fold, call. I doubled that on the flop. Fold.

I made it up to $160 that day. All off of a $5 buy in. I guess the point of all this is the fact that I felt differently about playing with earned chips rather than purchased chips. If I would have bought in with $100 I would have been very paranoid about calling a $5 bet because I hate losing my dough. The mentality I had was the fact that even if I lost my whole stack to stupidity, I still only lost $5. The reward I got for this experience was comfort at the .50 NL level. Something I didn't have before.

So my amateur advice is to start at level one, .01/.02, and earn your way to the bigger tables. I just believe if someone can't play at the lower tables then they have no business at the bigger ones where you can lose money faster than you can win it.

Yeah people in low limits are less likely to fold theyll play 2 7 off and get some amazing hand eveytime and the sad part is some other donkey will say nh......what idiots!

Yeah, I have played for a living before both in the casino and online. I made approx 50k one year and 56k for the second. I owned a trucking business and it bankrupted me. I am joining the military and leaving for boot camp in two months. I use bankroll management once I have one, but until then I'm in hold em hell. Between freerolls .10c daily tourneys and points games to win tickets to play for money. I finally got my br up to play at micro levels and I'm just commenting on this.

It seems to me harder to play at these levels than the antes I'm used to. Dropping down a limit or two isn't difficult, but at this level I'm getting sucked out as there IS no such thing as BR management when you have $2 or less.

as has been mentioned, the stupider people play, the most likely you are to make money. Don't complain about people playing badly, be glad they do. What I find works well is to keep your bluffing to a minimum when playing the small stakes, because it does not hurt anyone to pay 4 dollars to chase that flush. 4 grand, that's another story.
