My uncle told me that they often play cards in prison and one of the most popular games there is poker. Why do you think?

what else are they going to do,they used to use smokes and anything else they can get at the canteen for money, not a game you ever want to be suspected of cheating, for that matter don't think I would want to play in that game, can you imagine one of those guys on tilt:eek:

Considering where they are and what they are limited to do it would make scene that they play a lot of cards and poker.

To bad we can play cards at work. That sure as hell feels like jail to me some days. LOL

I remember playing poker in the county jail as a trustee. We used Scrabble tiles for chips. A tile was worth a nickel and a dollar got you 20. We had a max-limit of 5 and added 1 joker. We only played 5-card draw but the action was nice. This was back when you could carry cash on you (early '90's). Felt weird walking around w/a wad of ones and fives. I think I had a couple of bigger bills, as well. Crazy times.

:eek:It is strange to think that you can play poker under pressure since the condemned did not have the way out when withdrawing the money:eek:

Hi.
I don't know what to think about it. It doesn't matter to me. But overall, poker is great fun anywhere.

It's an interesting pastime for them as it keeps them busy and distracted, plus poker is a lot of fun so it's a way they can gauge the tension of all the complexity they encounter. I think it's cool that poker is spread in all possible scenarios, I think this is not a negative reference.

Well, what do people do in prison if not to play games? Of course they will play poker and chess, checkers and other games. At least some entertainment.

There's nothing wrong with playing poker in prison, and I don't know why I should be against it. On the one hand there are not only serious criminals in prison and on the other hand it doesn't harm anyone if they play poker there. So basically I don't really care but I can understand that when you're locked in you need something to kill time and then I think poker is a good alternative

I recently got out of a mental asylum & card games were in, they don't know poker here though sadly. I got my ass handed to me several times by a female in another game until I called it quits.
Card games lift up your spirits, makes the time fly by & is interctive!

I would say that they do it to pass the time, there is a documentary about something similar of a player who was sentenced to prison and he played with his phone to have money and thus help his family from prison

Chess is also common, don't you think it's prejudiced to try to play something just for being inmates?

An interesting but justifiable curiosity. Poker is a very individual game, in which there is a whole competition behind it. As the prisoners don't have many activities they end up rivaling through poker disputing things, maybe cigarettes. It is very interesting that poker is part of everyday life in a prison.

Bridge is the most common card game in Canadian prisons. I haven't heard of them playing poker there... but I'm sure it is possible.

In prison,l think you should be allowed to play poker,as this game only brings benefits and people develop their skills.

In our country, I have not heard of people playing poker in prison, but they play other games of chance! Someone plays to pass the time, and someone makes money on it, I don’t know if this is good or bad, but I would not want to end up in jail! And yes, in our country it is forbidden to gamble in prison, and they do it at their own peril and risk! Good luck at the tables!

I don't see anything wrong with them playing poker in jail with each other only. As long as they aren't allowed online to play poker. They shouldn't be allowed to gamble like that. But that's just my opinion.
