I wouldnt call that addiction. Its simple love for the game. Its like playing hoops with basketball or similiar to other sport. So no need to be worried about it. Just relax and enjoy the game, you are doing fine.

If you play a game for hours and hours, I don't consider it an addiction, but if you invest money in it and lose, it's gambling addiction. Many people work 10-12 hours a day, and they can also be called addicted. If poker is profitable, it's a job, not an addiction.

Recognizing and acknowledging a potential addiction to poker is an important step towards seeking help and making positive changes. Here are some signs that may indicate you have developed an addiction to poker:

  1. Preoccupation: You constantly think about poker, even when you're not playing. It becomes a dominant presence in your thoughts, and you may find it difficult to focus on other aspects of your life.
  2. Loss of Control: You find it challenging to limit the amount of time and money you spend on poker. Despite your best intentions, you consistently exceed the limits you set for yourself.
  3. Neglecting Responsibilities: You prioritize poker over other important areas of your life, such as work, relationships, and personal obligations. You may miss deadlines, neglect responsibilities, or withdraw from social activities to spend more time playing poker.
  4. Chasing Losses: Instead of accepting losses as a natural part of the game, you feel compelled to chase your losses by playing more and increasing your bets. This behavior can lead to financial and emotional distress.
  5. Escaping Reality: You use poker as a means to escape from stress, anxiety, or other emotional issues. Playing poker provides a temporary relief or distraction from real-life problems, but it doesn't address the underlying issues.
  6. Failed Attempts to Stop: You have made multiple attempts to cut back or stop playing poker but have been unsuccessful. You may experience a strong urge to return to the game, even after periods of abstinence.
  7. Emotional Rollercoaster: Poker affects your mood and emotional well-being significantly. You may experience extreme highs when winning and deep lows when losing. These emotional swings can impact your overall happiness and mental health.
  8. Financial Consequences: You experience financial difficulties due to excessive gambling. You may have accumulated debts, borrowed money, or depleted savings to fund your poker activities. Financial problems caused by gambling can create significant stress and strain on personal relationships.
  9. Deception and Denial: You hide or downplay the extent of your poker activities from family, friends, or loved ones. You may lie about the amount of time or money spent on poker to avoid judgment or consequences.
If you recognize several of these signs in your own behavior, it is essential to seek support and assistance. Consider reaching out to a mental health professional, counselor, or support group specialized in gambling addiction. They can provide guidance, resources, and strategies to help you regain control and overcome your addiction. Remember, acknowledging the problem and seeking help is the first step towards recovery.

You know you're addicted when you start forgetting or ignoring just about everything except playing poker.
When all the alarms set on your fone are the schedule of your poker games. 😆😆

If you're losing money, if you're borrowing money to play poker, then you need help because it's clearly an addiction. This is how I understand this situation. If you play for hours without losing money, then you are either a good player or you just have too much free time :)

If playing have priority over any other activity, then yes.
If you play even if you're tired, frustrated and losing money, then yes.

One should play only for having a good time and risk only the money he can afford to lose...

Addiction is when you spend time on poker and destroy your private life because of it. By this I mean both time and money. Otherwise you just have too much free time :)

I don't think the amount of hours you play determine if you are an addicted or not. But I think that when poker start to harm your personal relationships or your professional career then poker is becoming a problem in your life.

If you haven't played one day and you feel angry and annoyed, then play has become addictive.
But playing daily is normal.
