How Does Alcohol Effect Your Game? Better or Worse?

In my opinion, alcohol in poker is a bad ally and a good brake on thinking.

Alcohol definitely impairs my judgement. I used to sip crown and coke at the casinos when I would play cash games to "loosen" up, but I noticed I walked away with bigger stacks when I was sober. One thing I also like doing in a live setting is working out something with a waitress in advance to bring me fake crown and cokes. Instead of an alcoholic beverage I get a diet coke in secret. I order them frequently and make my play look like I am playing totally wild. A few traps later and I walk away with my wallet full of green. Kind of tricky on my part, but it sure makes for a fun night at the tables, plus the waitress gets a nice tip and I leave in a better mood than if I was drunk.

Alcohol does help me relax when playing poker. I don't really get upset in hands, that shouldn't be in the hand to begin with. I just have learned for the years you win some and you lose some. For me alcohol is nice and relaxing in big tournaments, I find it helps for me. That's why I drink while I play.

Theres levels too it! Once you get your first few cocktails everytimes moving well and still capable of deep thought process. After you break the drunk threshold things start to spiral out of control lol. Basic perception just goes out the window and next thing you know youre calling light on the river with A high lol

Alcohol does not have a very good effect on my game, because it seems that I’ll win anyway, I don’t need to think, I have all my hands on the nuts) Therefore, before the game I try not to drink alcohol, I’ll be left without a bankroll, it’s better to watch a movie or read a book if I had to drink alcohol.

alcohol affects negatively, very few people have achieved good results, playing poker and drinking alcoholic beverages, I really did it a couple of times and it was not so profitable.

Alcohol reduces the ability to do many things, while at the same time increases your belief that you can do more than normal. That is why it is illegal to drink and drive in most Countries all over the World.
You push limits and boundaries, and it makes you feel Superhuman, which is never good and causes many accidents and mistakes, Poker was once referred to as a game which is won by the player who makes the fewest mistakes, and in my experience is very true.
I used to drink while playing Poker, and it never went well, you tend to make stupid calls, when you should be folding, and it is so easy with a two color normal deck, to miss or think you have made a flush or not.
I love to play against drunks, as they are very hard to read, but incapable to change their habits and will bluff, bluff, and bluff again even when you are holding the nuts, all you need to do is wait and be patient until you have them drawing dead.

if you are serious about your play, you wont touch alcohol, but if you are just having fun with a few friends i think drinks are a necessity.

the question is whether it affects the game better or worse, I can only say one thing that alcohol never when and where did not affect for the better

Alcohol is sometimes good for poker - but in small doses. It relaxes and removes fear in unnecessary moments.
But you should not abuse it

It helped me at live poker when I was first starting out to feel more comfortable at the table. After you play enough to feel at home at a poker table it becomes unnecessary, and probably a leak. In some games there might be image benefits of seeming to drink and be there for a party. So in that regard it is fine, but one needs to take care that's not just a rationalization.

Online there is no apparent benefit, so I'd avoid it.

The way alcohol acts on each person is different, some for example, just take a can of beer and get drunk, while for others a can has no effect.
Maybe to play poker is the same, a person drinking a little makes him more comfortable to be able to play, and if that helps in any way, he has to use it.
Just be careful not to overdo it.

Alcohol and poker are different things, it's better to play poker separately and drink alcohol separately!
I have more than once lost my bankroll under the influence of alcohol .....
