Lost

Ive been playing a couple of years now online and Ive gained ground and lost ground probably lost a couple Gs all together. Im not sure how to gain ground I usually loose big pots eventually to bad beats. Like pocket Ks and get beat by pocket AAs and stuff like that. Whats the answer?

Wow, YOU HAVE DONE GREAT!! I started out good, deposited $600 in Full Tilt, got it up to 1200 including bonus, drew out 600, and then everything went to pot!! I lost 600, redoposited the original 600, lost that!!! Now I am just a bonus hound. I go from site to site earning bonuses and am up maybe $1000. I am not a good poker player!!

okay...

so my dad got me into holdem.. and my first 50$ on poker stars jumped to 250 then to 0. after this i did another 50$ buy in and got up to 400!!! then to 0. I was playing 2/4 or 1/2

so tonight i did another 50$ buy in and lost it all without ever gaining. I am starting to hate my life and i just downloaded cake power because of this thread.

I dont want to give up on this loss.. any advice from you successful veterans?

I may not be a successful veteran but I do know that playing 1/2 or 2/4 w/ $50 is insane. Start low w/ a $50 bankroll. Maybe some $2 SNG's or the micro tables on Cake or Pokerstars should be okay. You need to build that roll to at least $2000 before you attempt 1/2. My personal experience has proven that no matter how good you are playing you will still see huge downswings and you need to ride them out but you will not be able to do this with out a proper bankroll. My roll was just over 2k last week and I experienced a 10 buyin downswing at .25/.50. That's $500! Almost 25% of my roll was demolished. If I had lost 10 buyins at 1/2 I'd be broke. So again, my advice is to play within you limits.

Back to the original poster. Overall I am a winning player. I've won a few thousand over a few years but more recently have taken poker more seriously. Last month I logged 44.5k hand with a very insignificant winrate after my huge downswing. Gonna keep grindin it out. My goal is to play 2/4 with a proper roll within the next 12-18 months.

The huge benefit of building a bankroll from scratch is that you become a better player by the time you have a bankroll. If it's a gift then play the lowest limits until you're cashing more often than the odds would dictate. So if you play 9 person SNGs that pay the top three your cashing % should be higher than 33% and naturally at an overall profit. GL.

I think the most I have ever won was $7.50 I was in a freeroll with like 400 people and it was a $25 dollar tourney and I took second, but other than that I win a little here and there...but a little here and there help cause it will all add up eventually.

I started with $0 and up to $700
Played freerolls to start and then micro sngs.
After that i moved up to same money added tounrnaments.
Now i play $5 sngs.
I never buyin with more than 1% of my bankroll, still play sngs.
When i get to $1000 i many able to make good weekly money from this.
must stay away from cash tables as i dont do that well at them.

I've lost and won quite a bit. I must say my best run was on PokerStars when I took 20 bucks to 500 in a matter of hours. Was hitting a great run of cards.. THE BEST!! ever!!
