How much money do you think you need to start playing poker?

It depends. Do you want to play online or live poker?
In online you can start playing freerolls so no need for start money. Or if you want to start to play directly with cash depends of what kind of tournaments/cash games do you want to play (micro, medium, high)

Online its possible to start with freerolls, but making a deposit of at least 100$ will speed up the process significantly. This is, what I did, when I started playing online poker seriously, and I also invested around 70$ in a tracker (PT4), so a total investment of 170$. Since then any additional investments in software and training material has been more than paid for by money won at the tables.

I also think you should start with the freerolls first. I only play on pokerstars, I started here with game chips and played only here for years. I still play there sometimes. If you lose, it's not a loss like playing for real money. Everyone does it differently, of course...

I guess if you have 100 times the minimum buy in, so for example if you have $25 you can play spin and go $0.25

I think $10 is enough to only play freerolls later, and if you play cash games or real money tournaments, I think $100 will be enough. No matter how you play poker, you will have periods during which you will not be able to win whatever action you take. If your bankroll runs out after one or more big losses, you simply run the risk of not surviving a possible losing streak.If you still can't win even after switching to lower stakes, then it might be time to take a break. Clear your head and return to the game with fresh thoughts.

I would have been satisfied with 10 dollars won in some freeroll. But if I simply don't have enough time to play freerolls. Then I make a deposit of about $100-200 and play in a tournament with a $2-5 buy-in. This is more than enough for me)

Up swing poker and blackrain79 have some good tips on BRM but if you start at 50 cents - 1$ BB than you should have about 100BB to start at the micros. They also recommend you learn on cash games first it is easier and most of the strategies are the same going from a cash game to tournaments. This is because tournaments have a-lot more going on and because of the different buy in sizes, tournament structure and tactics and strategies for the game play due to the blinds and antes are always increasing, you have different strategies for early, mid, late stages, the money bubble, the final table and even ICM considerations therefore a-lot more to learn and take into account hence learn the cash game style first then try the low buy in tournaments where the blinds and antes increase every 6/8/10/12 or 15 minutes.

Tip on BRM - Your money is an investment in yourself; it’s your ROI. Think of it that way and after you buy in its no longer money it is chips; pieces of clay that keep track of your score. This helps you stay off TILT. To determine an amount for your bankroll it helps if you think of it like you would approach any other investment like choosing how much to invest in the stock market except you are investing in your own ability so take it seriously and study be prepared have a basic strategy and game plan and adjust it as needed.. Be strict in the amount you choose to invest. Avoid this crooked thinking “I’ll start with $1,000, but I can just reload whenever if I need to,” you’re setting yourself up for failure. If treat your bankroll as an investment you will play your best poker as you will value every decision. and make plus EV decisions. I would suggest the proper amount be approx 100 big blinds at the level you wish to start. For example 1$ BB then start with $100 to risk and stick to it as this will help you maintain the attitude that every decision matters. Good luck.
