deposited a few times....never deposited enough for a true roll that I would grind....micros can be beat but rather start at a mid stakes level.....

I see your point David, but i must ask would you really advise someone to deposit $1k and play 50nl right at the beginning, and what do you think what percentage of players that would follow your path would have the same outcome as you did, i think that it is a low percentage, most of them would lost thousands of bucks and eventually would go broke or lost interest... I absolutely see the point of skipping the micros to avoid getting some bad habits that you can get while playing 2, 4NL (i didnt played any above that), there was a great tread while ago when there was stated and explained the same principle you have but at the stakes lower than you stated and if i can afford i would deposit at least 100 bucks now and i would only and exclusively play cash and i know that i would get a lot better that way then now when i wait to get $20 from FR to have some buyins at 2nl...

ON the other hand im afraid that would lost a lot money if i were deposited last november when i started to play poker, i already lost every possible free money there is online, that would have happened with my money, i really couldn't afford to lost (this might sound funny to you) $50+ last year because in rough times every buck counts, i started to play poker back then juts to earn something from nothing, now year later when i think that im atleast break even i totally realize that deposit and play real money is a better option for me to really progress as a player, but i strongly believe that if i did it back then it would be a huge mistake...

I would never advise anybody do anything they weren't comfortable doing, and I certainly would never recommend someone wager more than they could afford to lose. So no, my experience should not be an example for anyone else to follow. I came into online poker with some live poker experience but it had been a long time. But I'm the type that when I take on a new hobby, I jump in with both feet, I don't play around. That's just my nature. I fully appreciate that not everyone has the financial resources to go about it that way.

This goes back to it being relative to the individual. What works for me may not work for you and vice-versa. Which was the point about there being lots of valid reasons for depositing vs grinding from zero, none of which have any bearing on skill as was claimed.

Yup most definitely have to agree with kcanucks comment as po quited, had wanted to hit my own head of a boulder sometimes having read through various threads of his.

+1 to dm's comments as always, financially if I hadn't lost as much money in the past player poker as I have I wouldn't ever bother grinding for pennies as I am either (however this is my way of learning the grind and dealing with varience and hopefully manage to build my br's up to play the stakes I would be happier with actually grinding out some profit).

I certainly have appreciated for grinding from the micros as it its always great to have experience against a wide range of players but also that upping your stakes to grown your experience is true as well.

Essentially you can look at it backwards as well, obv if someone can be a winning player at 25/50 then it's obv stakes below this are not going to be harder and unless prone to tilt because of the sometimes runins with high varience players then its not like someone who is winning at 50nl is going to be a losing player at 5nl. So obv financially if you can get in and learn and improve at higher limits (if financially it will have no impact on you to be able to deposit for the limit) can't see why you wouldn't.

We all have our reasons to deposit which are of benefit, as well as reasons not to but strongly as dm said to denote depositing or not depositing with skill level just doesn't make sense.

I only make deposits to new sites. I have not replaced lost money. I seem to gain around 20% a month on my existing bankrolls. It lets me withdraw a nice chunk of change every few months.

I deposit at a local poker software, a couple of times 20 dollars.This play usually only cash game.almost always I got up above $ 40, and then raise money to Skrill, and switch on pokestras, or at Unibet.
I had NO some special results, but for now the only way I do deposit.

I invest about 10$ maybe little per mounth , but i dont play on one platform.
I'm new poker player this is my Second year with poker , and im still improving my game so i don't make big deposits.
I want to clear the bonuses from the clients i deposit before and to use my freeroll tickets , and new depositors tickets then ill try to start with micro then maybe bigger buy-in.

where do you play Arkan? i really hate our local software, not one is even close to descent, even that NSbet is easy money but there are a lot of multiple accounts and the collusion happen even trough chat and they dont do anything about that...

The bonus we get is according to some of our habits and/or performances.

In my 4 to 5yrs of online poker i spent about 50$....
That 30$ was to get different promo deposit offers at various web sites...

i,ve gone busto alot in the past but thats not because ive played bad i would build a bankroll and take some shots at the big tournaments fully prepared and fearless about my roll no brm. i would deposit 15 to 30 dollers and start the process over.
now i just grind cash tables, and take an occasional shot at the big money.

i dont think going broke is an option and if it happened i would be confident enough to just invest 800 dollers like half a months wage and get a return within a month

Deposits.

I deposited a total of 100$ in poker online after winning a tournament at my local casino. I put down 1/50 of my winnings and haven't deposited since. I usually play both cash, casino 2-3 and online when I am playing. I havent played in several months because i refuse to deposit more online and I have no access to my account. What sites are actually paying out and accountable to their customers? I dont know.

Zero. I'm brokey and still trying to conquer tilt (my current formula is two parts Frank Sinatra, one part vodka).

I really want to play live but it will cost every cent I can scrape together just to sit a table shortstacked and find out if mouthy drunks live tilt me as bad as stallers online do. I do have freeroll winnings I play with online, though, so that is something.

First deposited in 2008 of $100 been using it ever since, never got it above $250 before having to withdrawal some. Currently on a official grind took my last $80 and now up to $265 watch out nosebleeds I'm coming for you.

If I had the disposable income I would probably try and have a bit more fun and play higher limits so keep enjoying yourself and depositing!

And for those who value bonuses. Pretty sure the serious grinders are all taking advantage of the dep bonus whenever possible.

I have only ever made 1 deposit and that was over 4 years ago.

I have cleared that and have at least 4 others funded from freerolls and the occasional S'n'G

about 20 -30$ depending is a win or not same moth play more tan 100 when i win same

I'll take a shot every few months at a casino with 100-200 for cheap mtts and 3/6 fl if it's available.

Online I use to make min deposits on ps every month or 2, then I figured out brm and how to really focus on improving my game right when bf shut it down.

Now I make my money off of freerolls, so mine is a time investment. I just got my first poker check a couple months ago and I went ahead and made a couple of min deposits on different sites to take advantage of the bonuses with the money I had just withdrawn.

I believe we have to take advantage of every opportunity available, and deposit bonuses to essentially get an extra rakeback is an important part of that.

Some people play for fun, nothing wrong with depositing, it keeps us winning regs in the ££.
