Poker

In poker, skills are mostly important, and luck is for dessert. Play with whatever hand you have. Learn to play with any hand.

"Play with whatever hand you have" - that's "skill"????? "Any two" only works when your opponent misses completely. The rest of the time it's a sure way to lose quickly.

I think skill plays a large amount in the game of poker. If you wait for luck, you will not be able to say you have earned enough to make it worth your while. You need to know when to hold your cards or to fold them. This is much needed in the game of poker.

Depends, regular games i think ts more skill, turbo games 50/50 (early stages more skill, late/mid stages more lucky). Hyper games more lucky ( and the -25bb games)
In hyper games you play a lot of coin flip and 60/40 situations, so its more gambling. And mid/ late stages, when everyone has 8BB, 6max and 3bb levels, you cant wait for AA KK AK, the only thing you have to know to play those games is the ranges for each position
If I waited for AA KK AK I'd NEVER win a game.

LUCK

I've lost 80% of the hands that I was 75% or MORE to win this week, So yeah, LUCK is a massive factor.

Correctly ranging your opponents marginal hand and getting their stack in from WAY behind but getting 2 outted over and over and over.... how did the "skill" help?

But while I WROTE THIS SHORT THREAD i hit 3 flopped sets and 2 flopped FH's and got full value for every one. LUCK.

I think that skill is more important in poker than luck. Of course luck is very important too, without luck it's difficult to win. But skill is an essential part in poker. You can improve your skills every day.

coincidentaly, i just read an answer from a pro about the same subject: his answer was 55skill, 45 luck.
i believe this to be pretty accurate.. You have to remember that the difference of 10% is huge.

I would say 70 percent skill and 30 percent luck. Winning the hands you shouldn't win is pure skill, while losing the bad beats is bad luck. Minimizing the damage and maximizing your profits is where the skill comes into play!

The most intense game for the power of the mind ... I would say that 80% mobility and 20% luck ... I come to this conclusion because of the current forms of improvement that poker has had and the much help that there is today for all types of players .. the infinite variety that professionals transmit to us on how to be better players .. good luck to all and to study a lot and to put more volume of hands ... good luck to all ... excellent opinions of variance .. very respected budget ... good luck friends ...

I make this question everyday and don't get any anwser yet but i will try to persuate you with a exemple situation:

lets suposse that you win a tournament 1/100. there was 100 people paying this. if was rolling a dice you chances to win it would be 1%. you should win 1 at 100 times.

you are a good player? than you will play 100 tournaments and will win more than once. you are learning ? probable will need more time to get it. maybe you will not play very well the heads up because you know few about this system.

In resume poker is a statistical game if you go all in with 80% chance to win probable you will play better than if you just go all in with 40% or less, but just probable.

According to you, poker is all about luck or skill?

Well, as the saying goes, "I'd rather be lucky than good".
In a game where BOTH play a factor, it is important that you play with skill over the long term so that you can exploit the luck when you get it, yet be able to exploit your opponents even when you don't.

As with most things there are lots of factors which impact the outcome of your poker results. And the word skill is a broad term. Poker is about:
  • Folding
  • Card Strength vs Range
  • Position
  • Aggression
  • Stack Size (Deep/Mid/Short)
  • Cash vs Tourney
  • Early./Middle/Bubble/Late game strategy
  • Reads/Tells/Stats/Notes
  • Bet Sizing
  • Blind speeds (Hyper/Turbo/Normal)
  • Avoiding multiway pots
  • Folding Jacks
  • Outs
  • Premium Made / Marginal Made / Speculative / Broadways / Connectors / Suited
  • ... and Luck.
Cheers,
ObbleeXY

I think sometimes luck and skill go hand and hand. No doubt about it, poker is a game of skill but a lot of times you have to have the skills to put yourself in a situation where luck can help you.

It's definitely entirely luck. You're best to play when you're nearing the end of an already lucky day. So you'll win.

Well this is a good and hard question !

Last week i would say all about luck, but today i'll say all about skills and patience..

To sum up, 80% Skills 20% Luck.

work + skill + luck

Without work there is not skill, luck without work exists, but not for long time. Ideal when they are together;), 90-10 ???
