We all love the “rags to riches” idea of starting with zero money and building a full buy-in to the wsop main event.

There are, of course other ways to build a robust bankroll. Please share your thoughts with us!

Have you ever successfully built a bankroll? What would you include in a plan to increase your bankroll? What types of games? Over how long a period? How risky would your plan be?

I think building a bankroll is mostly about discipline and patience. Playing within your bankroll, choosing the right games, and avoiding unnecessary risks are really important. It usually takes time, but consistent decisions and good bankroll management make a big difference in the long run.

If you have spare cash each month then that can be your bankroll.

If you looking to start from $0 then
Find a site you like that has loads of freerolls and play them for cash or tickets.
Set yourself a target to get from freerolls say $20 - $50.
Once you reach your target you can start playing micro stakes game use a Bankroll management plan like no more than 2% of your bankroll for tourneys or sit and goes and no more than 5% for cash games (if you like them).

As your bankroll goes up you can play in high stakes game BUT AS YOUR BANKROLL GOES DOWN you need to play lower stakes game until your bankroll start to grow again.

A lot depends on your time frame and the hours you have available to play. If you need money in a hurry, enter the biggest MTT you can afford and hope for a deep run. If you have time, freerolls and smaller limit games can allow you to grind while occasionally taking a shot at a big jackpot MTT.

I use freerolls , welcome bonuses and promotions challenges to increase poker $$$$ bankroll , and I use welcome offers , challenges , free gifts , promotions , free bets , free spins wagering casino slots promos to increase my sports and casino bankroll . Although nowadays these bankrolls are combined all together , the funds go for casino and poker and sports all together

. I will try to win Rome $$$ in poker games or slots or sports betting with Lowe buy in or risk and see of it has reward so as to move to the next level . But till now I was unable to level up stakes and rewards .
Poker games results and sports bets and casino sessions results overally have not added much in my bankroll . I cannot find any other ways to increase those bankrolls .
I am not good enough in poker , casino or sports betting in order to finance these activities from my own wallet exclusively , I have not good encouraging results and profits from gambling . So I min deposit and control it strictly . I have no great profitable ways to dramatically increase my bankroll in a very short time .

I built many times from scratch. Mostly the lazy way by playing freerolls only and then slowly adding micro games. But this takes a lot of time and If one is a winning micro player it would be a better idea to deposit 100 and play micros, take shots on the highest micro levels (=Nl 10) and then trying to play midstakes regularly as soon as the bankroll allows.

I've tried 2 ways. Playing freerolls or make a small deposit.
Both ways need a lot of time and patience, even more so if you chose freerolls. They also both need a lot of volume.

So, in my experience, if you don't "have all day", a lot of patience and some skills, building a BR from scratch is not for you.

First question would be what is a meaningful bankroll? It is probably different for everyone.
Building through the smallest stakes is a never ending journey and most likely will not lead to a meaningful bankroll.
If the object is only to have fun then grinding through micros is all you need, but to take shots at meaningful levels one should probably have some additional income for these purposes.

Each day you must do 1% of your weekly starting bakroll .

if you have 100$ do 1$ everyday ..... If you start the week with 7478$ just do 75$ everyday of that week
Play whatever you like or what you're good at.

Is it hard ?

I came close to succeeding, but I went crazy with betting and lost everything, entirely my responsibility, or irresponsibility.
Today I consider it more difficult to grow your bankroll only with freerolls, so always making an external contribution and firmly respecting the current limits of your bankroll, I believe that success will come.

I'll use how I Sports bet as an example

Try to set side money for your sportsbetting/poker bankroll and don't dip into money that you need for rent & phone bills, electricity etc. Keep money for bills separate from your bankroll.

Set aside a bankroll to play with (multiple books, 7 x 100 = $700)
-Bet 2-10% (anywhere from toonies to $10 bets, increase if you double your bankroll)
- Stay within a certain limit, don't be impulsive

- Keep track of winnings & losses to track accurate progress on an excel sheet, black book or pencil & paper
- Don't only count your wins - seeing losses helps you fix leaks (sportsbetting leaks for example for me would be poor UFC betting, so I don't & just enjoy watching the fights, they're so unpredictable with injuries etc. Same with boxing. a lot of them go into fights with injuries from training camp etc)
- Reward yourself for wins & celebrate! It's exciting winning bets - take losses as a learning lesson.

- Always hedge your bets to try to make a profit. (Bet an underdog at + money & live bet them if they take an early lead)

Winning 7% a week at each roll level would also demand a similar increase in skills and moving up in buy-ins. Otherwise the used time would also increase.

This compound interest model is not realistic.

so you say it's hard to do 1$ with a 100$ bankroll in 24h ?

What you play and how many hours out of 24 depends on you !

You can also try to win 1 BB at 0.5/1 NL
Or you can win 50BB at 0.01/0.02 NL
This choice is up to you. If you play cashgames , Spin&Go, or any other format.

But making 1% of your bankroll in one day it's easy.

The hard part is discipline and consistency.

Even if you do 2$ in 3 days starting with a 200$ bankroll after 6 years you will still have 200k.

Now tell me how hard is it to make 0.67$ in one day if you have a 200$ starting balance ?
OR making 1$ everyday with a 600$ balance. for a 6 years scenario

No, I am not saying that. At the first ladders of your 2 year plan that is doable.

Except it doesn't.
What one can play with $100 roll is very limited.
But what one must play to reach, say the $7.5k+ a week in your plan (week 94) requires much much more. And variance doesn't vanish at any level.

If you can pull that off then I applaud you 👏

But in real life nobody does that. Otherwise players like Matthew Staples would not have their roll hanging stagnant around 300k for some years already.

Good luck to you 👍

my point is that poker is poker at any level , and if you can do 1$ with 100$ , then you can do 1000$ with 100k appling the same rules
GGpoker has 10/20 NL with 2000/4000 buy in,
Pokerstars has 50/100 NL with 10k buy in

After that you have to search for live games

to paraphrase a noted player and coach: 1. Find a game you can beat, 2. play it a lot. Don't move up and lose your BR because the players are different, stay with lower game until you reach your goal.

Hi Antonis , I would suggest playing more MTT , in my opinion this is the fastest way to turn small $ into big $$$$$ , I have played both
freerolls and paid entry MTT and I find the game of poker still the same game... of course in some bigger paid MTT it's a challenge as will
have a bigger starting stack and like plenty levels of rebuy period, but worth the effort if you can run deep and FT !

The same way I've done it many times the last 20+ years. Start with $50 double tabling 2nl full-ring it's the softest Holdem format to play. Once I get to $500 I start playing $5+ longer blind level MTT's on the weekends. I keep playing cash 10nl during the week. Once I get 100 buy-ins for the next level of cash I move up till I reach 50nl. If I lose 5 buy-ins when I move up to any new level gotta move back down a level and win them buy-ins back. Rinse repeat till I reach 5k+. Withdraw spend/enjoy.

Rinse and repeat.

Cheers!!!

Personally, I've never been able to build a solid bankroll because I'm constantly withdrawing money to help pay bills and other things for my family. So the only advice I can give is to keep saving your poker money, not withdraw it. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I can easily win $1 per day, but that's because I am playing against the worst players avaialble at these levels.

If any of us here were good enough to win $1000 per day we would not likely be even having this conversation, as we would be a known poker pro.

Your example is like saying if you can score a goal every other game in a part time football league, you just do the same thing and score a goal every other game in the premier league.....guess what.....no you can't!!

Total nonsense based on flawed assumptions, or more likely based on nothing at all!

Play freerolls frequently and use freeroll money by playing small tournaments. Slowly and steadily, with constancy and persistence and a lot of patience, without letting yourself become demotivated.
