I discovered poker through my father, who always showed a great interest in card games and strategy. Growing up, I remember watching him participate in friendly poker games with friends and family at home. Very interesting question. I discovered poker when I was 11. the whole family used to play with matches instead of money or chips.
And the variant I first learned is 5-Card Draw. It's only 20 years later that I started to play Holdem and Omaha.
And now I really like that game !

We played 5 card draw as kids. It was pretty wide spread locally back in my young days and of course played for Monopoly money hehe. I "discovered" NL Holdem which I mainly play now days when I was starting out collage. Joined some collage leagues there and started playing online shortly after.

When I was a young child 8-9 years old we as a family would play poker (usually 5 card stud) at Christmas as we always received some money as gifts maybe 1$ or $2 and we would play a cash game my brother, father, uncle, grandfather, and best friend. As I remember in the end my uncle would always take the money. The adults drank a lot and my brother and I got to act like grownups and have a glass of beer. This was back in the 60's. Probably not acceptable today.

I was introduced to poker at work! We worked in a hangar with a colleague and transported cargo. During the break, I saw a colleague playing something on the phone. I asked him and he told me more about this game. I've been playing poker for 4 years since that day.
