I usually feel very angry and sometimes makes some mistakes during next 2 or 3 hands. I am trying to become more easygoing on that.

People who insult other players are too stupid to realize that they give away the information to their opponents that they are on tilt..

i would advice to try and make use of that knowledge by keeping them frustrated! :)

I like it when people make insults. It is entertaining to watch weather or not if it involves
me or not. If I make people insult me, it means they are hurting and I have achieved one of my goals of playing poker..haha.

I read insults and just laugh at it. Still, I am passionate about the game when I play so to speak, and therefore responding to insults is stupid, you should always watch the table.

At first I used to argue along with them, then over time I realized that I cannot fall into that childish game and now I just ignore them.

Just ignore them, turn off your chat.
I never do that. Chat is a source of free information. Cat fights between two other players likely means both are tilted. That's worth knowing if you're in a pot with one or both of them. It could also possibly mean that they're colluding, and that's also something that's good to know. You have precious little to go on during on-line Poker already, so why deny you one viable source of information? Keep the chat on and pay attention.

I came across an interesting perspective on this today from a podcast interview with Alex Fitzgerald.

To paraphrase, he said that the players who he coaches only started getting insulted once they were winning :)

He added that at low-mid stakes games the vast majority of opponents are losing players, so if you're not getting courting attention it means that you are playing in a style that losing players find pleasing.

Fantastic advice from Alex. I never thought of it from that perspective. From now on I will welcome the insults, knowing I'm playing a style that unsettles the Villains.

Great insight from Katie too:

The thing is that these comments automatically indicate to me that the person doesn’t fundamentally understand tournament play and is extremely likely to be playing way too tightly. Whenever someone is critical of your play, unless it is someone that you respect a lot, focus on what their criticism says about how they play.

This info can be extremely profitable—such as when I get berated for making an any-two pot odds call, I make a note on that player that they will make pot odds mistakes, and as a result can shove wider on them with a short stack than I would versus an unknown opponent.

And it is easier not to get riled up from nasty comments when you take them for the statements of ignorance/free information that they actually are. When you use their insult to make more money from them, then you get the last laugh :)

I'm usually playing too many tables to notice. Once in awhile I'll see someone say something to me. I just ignore it. If their life is so sad and miserable that they feel the need to insult someone then their life is far sorrier that mine. Putzes act so big and tough in the anonymity of online - not just in poker, obviously.

It's funny, but I will engage if I see someone going after a different player and not letting up - especially if it's sexist or racial comments. That PISSES me off.

I prefer not to answer and in case I get the fantastic opportunity to eliminate it, I still hope that it offends me already eliminated and that is when I take the opportunity to make fun of it

pretty much ignore them. i really dont look at the chat. only when there are friendly players. usually i choose to see the tourney info instead of the chat. so dont even bother me at all. let them vent. hope they feel better after

No I have not been insulted in my play online, but yesterday I played live and a player told me that I should know when I should fold. He was upset that I didn't put him on a pair of QQ when it was top pair in a dry board when I had pocket 99s to win a big pot. I laughed at him which didn't help the matter much. He was a younger player that used the term "Ship it" when he won a pot. So no I would not react to someone insulting your play, because must of the time you are the one out playing them anyway to begin with.

I really don't care about people who toss insults at other players. In fact, I use it as a learning moment: are they really on tilt or putting on a show (because I've seen both).

However, if it becomes too personal (i.e., if I feel like they are starting to cross a line), I'll either give them a firm warning that they are starting to get out of line or I'll call the floor over to report it.

That's just me, though. I play poker to improve my game and have fun, not to be verbally abused by sore losers or players who feel they will gain an edge by pissing off the other players with their words/actions.

I actually don't have my chat turned on anymore. I used to have it on. All I really remember was people getting super mad and calling my a donk when they lost and I won a hand. I don't know what I would do in live poker. Just try to keep it chill unless they are really out of hand then try to report them or something like that.

Insults

I have been playing poker on card chat since March 2020 and I have had zero people insult me during any game. I play on poker stars and these people are nasty, they are probably teenagers or drunk or on drugs. I love playing on card chat because everyone as of yet has given me respect whether I take my time playing. I will continue to use this site because of this. I do not play every Friday or Saturday only when I have time, what I like is I am not penalized for not playing in free rolls. Hopefully I will be moving up here to the big leagues and play against some really good poker players daily in the near future. Give a little respect and kill them with kindness and they will see the light. Capo1014
