I think Omaha is easier to make money in.

Something funny happened to me yesterday.

I went into an Omaha freeroll without knowing how to play — I'd never played Omaha before. And just to pass the time while I was figuring out how it worked, I started being very aggressive with my bets, and went all-in a lot. It was a tournament with more than 500 people, and I finished in 70th place. I won a few cents.

Why do you think this happened?

The other side of it is that it is also easier to lose money in Omaha. Neat.

Your post is an excellent example of why Omaha should never be played as a no-limit game.

harder than usual because casual and weak players are not very interested in this game

You were lucky, I think it's harder to win in Omaha in a cash game than in NL Hold'em.

Yes that kind of feeling can come up when u are running good in a new game. And imo some is true: Bad players make a lot more mistakes in Omaha and if u really good then u can probably get enormous winrates longterm playing plo.

But its not that sinple because its a way more complicated game than nlh and to get really good at requires massive effort and u have to also put up with more variance. Ur swings will be a lot higher than in holdem. So u have to be ready to go on a 30+ stack downswing at times when putting in real volume. Thats extremely tough mentally and not for everyone.

I have a fitting analogy for u:

I was once in Afghanistan for a few days. Everyone told me how dangerous it is but nothing happened to me and i had a good time.

I now think Afghanistan is actually a safe place and will return soon.

I think it was lucky. Omaha I already think it's much more difficult, because the odds increase, the more difficult the card. However, in cashgame, the omaha pots are often larger.

It's not easy if everyone else was playing Omaha. I don't like playing that type of poker. Those who win playing Omaha without knowing how to play it are beginner's luck.

Play the game you enjoy the most and get the most enjoyment out of, not the one you think you can make the most money on.I don't think you can study for 1-2 years and then immediately start making money. You learn from your mistakes, you learn from experience. Honestly, I think you'll lose money at the very least at first. There's more to poker than just reading information with your eyes.

Omaha can be easier to profit from because players make more mistakes and games are often more action-heavy. However, variance is much higher, so you need stronger bankroll management and a good understanding of draws and hand strength.

freerolls aren't real poker man. Half the field is playing super scared, so spamming all-in forces folds 80% of the time. Combine that with the fact that hand equities in Omaha are way closer than Hold'em and you get runs like this. Run that same strategy for a week straight and you'll see why people call PLO a rollercoaster.

I didn't use to like Omaha, but after 10–20 games, I like it too.

Er, you got lucky. Keep playing like that and your luck will soon run out, but whatever you do, stick to freerolls.

Some people think Omaha is just about pot-betting; what happened was luck, that's all.

It's not easy for me, with five cards in my hand I tend to get confused how to set up my game, it's certainly easy to win, so to lose too.

I think the freeroll part is important. People play much more crazy when there’s nothing to lose. You may have just been more aggressive than the average player and variance did the rest.

You got lucky but I agree with you, I see a lot of players at Omaha games that don't know how to play properly, if you learn how to play it is easy.
