Might play higher stakes poker as I could afford it. I would retire with that kind of money so would need something to pass the time.

I would put the money in a fixed term deposit and have a budget of 5 tournaments a year.

NO. I play for enjoyment and that money would make it easier to play for enjoyment. I just might buy a motorhome and follow the wsop circuit.

Most smart players would at least redefine their relationship with poker.

Why?
More money means more freedom to play.
If you win a million then lose half, take a break or quit.
Personally, nothing would change for me. Only my living standards.

If you have a business that has earned you a million dollars, would it be right to give it up and look for something else?
That's a strange question :)
Why give up a lucrative profession?

For someone who truly loves the game, more money usually means more opportunities, not an exit door. A big score just removes constraints. You get to choose better games, take more interesting shots, study without pressure, and explore formats or projects you might not touch while grinding for rent.

In that sense, money doesn’t replace poker, it deepens the relationship with it. When survival isn’t the main driver anymore, what’s left is pure curiosity, passion for improving, and enjoying the game on your own terms.

I don’t think I would quit poker completely, but I’d definitely change how I approach it. Winning a million dollars would remove financial pressure, which for me is one of the biggest stress factors in poker.

Without the need to grind for income, I’d probably play fewer hours and focus more on enjoying the game—higher-quality sessions, interesting tournaments, or even just playing for the challenge. I think poker becomes more fun when results aren’t tied to daily expenses.

That said, I’d still want to stay involved because poker is more than just money; it’s about competition, learning, and self-control.

If I won a million from poker, I don’t think I’d quit completely, but I’d definitely change how I play. I’d probably take some money off the table, invest part of it, and play poker more for enjoyment instead of pressure. Having that kind of cushion would make it easier to stay disciplined and avoid chasing losses. Poker would become more of a hobby than a grind for me.

I've loved playing poker for more than 60 years, so why on earth would I quit just because I won a lot of money?

Even if I won that amount, I still wouldn't be able to stop playing. I love and respect this game so much that no amount of money can distract me from it. For me, this is a hobby, a part-time job, and considering that there is a war going on outside my window, poker will be with me as long as my heart beats.

Of course not :)
It's not very smart to quit a game that has brought you so much money.
I would invest the money in various financial assets that would bring me a stable income in the future, and I would devote all my free time to the game.
