Is it possible for an average player to win enough money in freerolls to buy food for their basic needs?

I don't think even good players these days can earn enough from freerolls to cover their basic needs.
And if they do, they'll make a much better hourly wage at micro limits at that time.

Nice price on the groceries! Here in Canada, I am currently paying $175/week for myself (usd $'s)

A more serious goal would be to build a bankroll playing freerolls, and start learning at least the basics.

These days I rarely play any CC freerolls (once a month), but when I do I am shocked by how poorly so many of the players are playing. I wonder to myself "Don't they want to get better at this game?"

I don´t think so unless you are a very good poker player. It is better to have a job to pay all the bills

There's only 5-6 good freerolls a weeks. On GGPoker, Cardschat freerolls are only twice a week. I don't play a large volume, but in a year I only final tabled 2-3 times. On 888 Poker there's 4-5 Cardschats freerolls. Same thing, as I don't play that much I final tabled maybe 2-3 times a year. I don't play on any other sites. On 888 Poker if you climb up their levels you get to participate in a bigger freerolls once a month. Whenever I accumulate a few dollars I try to participate in bigger buy ins tournaments. I never managed to spin up my bankroll. I don't think living off frerolls is something most people can do.
