First off, that's heartbreaking. I haven't really played poker regularly in a while, but I like reading hands to keep somewhat fresh when I do hit up the tables...plus, "poker at work? that's better than work at work."

Anyway, we are raising here to balance our range, correct? I don't play these levels, but I'm guessing we still don't have much FE here PF, and limping is way too transparent. So it hopefully allows us to C-bet certain boards depending on the villians and take down more pots uncontested, which limping doesn't allow much of.

How often do you guys mix it up between raising and folding these smaller PP's preflop in early position at your stakes (FR)...in what cases, if any, would it be a good idea to limp, in relation to types of players acting after you?

Personally, I fold 22-66 from the 1st 2 positions and open all pairs from everywhere else. I do not open limp. Ever.

Never limp. Raise or fold depending on how aggressive the rest of the table plays.

Anybody know how many hands at 25nl it would take to get 450 points on Paddy power?

Didnt play nl$25 on paddy power, but on nl$50 i was getting 450 points every 400 hands, and if the games were good prob every 350 or so. Dunno, double that maybe. Once you start hitting the vip tiers though your mulitplier kicks in, and once you start to factor in the cash bonus's its and extremly good deal.

Actually we're not. Balance is largely irrelevant unless you play really high stakes.

We are raising small pp from EP because it's +EV unless the table is so aggro that we often have to give them up preflop. Most of the time we'll get to steal blinds or win the hand with a cbet, and the sometimes we'll be able to set mine.

We are not limping because limping small pp is -EV against competent players. Good thinking players will iso-raise our limps with a wide range from late position and we'll end up in a situation where we don't have implied odds when we hit our sets because villain's hands are not strong enough, yet we can't really play our hands for their unimproved value when we miss because we'll mostly have underpairs to the board and we'll play out of position.

in the second video of moving up series Fr with nolan on Dc he says that the only time you should limp your PP is on really loose passive tables where you're pretty certain you'll get 3/4 other limpers.

Okay, so its not so much balancing of range as it is giving us more ways to win a hand.

I understand the point of just folding them at aggro tables.

What if the table is so passive, that raising only bloats the pot (say this is how the table reacts to every raise- I'm thinking along the lines of live 1/2 tables)? And we can't really c-bet on the flop unless it is pure value, because players will continue with almost anything? I see really terrible players when I play live, and I would not count them as competent, but that's okay because they are there to gamble (or they think they are great at poker).

In this case I'm guessing I should let them go PF?

so i tilted away like 50$ last night by moving up in limits to 10nl, bad idea and I wanted to deposit 50$ and it says echeck is not available!! wtf

edit: and as for the tilt thing it really sucks i feel like shit, I was running so good and just went nuts after dropping like 5 BIs, since i wasnt used to cash again, i had it under control wayyy back when i was playing 10-25nl but i need to go back to the drawing board and start all over, ecspecially since my main goal is to be playing 100nl by 2010...
