Guys, while I'm in grad school, what option is better for side money: Mall job (like working at Express for Men or some other store like that) or playing poker. Gogogo!

There are advantages & disadvantages to both.

The mall is loaded w/ hot chics all the time & you are guaranteed a paycheck.

Poker is loaded w/ fish all the time which you can make $$$ off of but @ the same time, you are guaranteed to, @ some point, pull your hair out :motz: or bang your head against the wall :banghead:

In closing, I don't know :dontknow:

NOTE: I don't see any 'disadvantages' @ workin' @ the mall except for gettin' out of bed on time...

Shitty pay generally, actual work and responsibilities involved, getting up on time really sucks, and I have a gf so hot girls don't matter anymore. Sigh.

I had this decision also but I have guranteed money from poker in the form of bonuses as I thought I could get some form of guranteed money whilst playing poker so bonus whoring poker ftw!

I have a whore plan which should net me $1.5 - $2k plus anything I win which I should complete in about 4-6 weeks depending on how much I play plus then the $1k gnuf next month.

it's only garanteed money if you can break-even while clearing those bonuses.

Seriously? If you think a mall job is more work/responsibility then you should probably take the mall job because you're not analyzing it very realistically.

Yeah but what time period is this? If you're 24-tabling this is likely a pretty decent hourly. If you're 4-tabling however, it's probably under minimum wage.

the last about 10k hands have been 12 tabling, so about 440$ in 10 days(might be less because I have 2, 2k hand nights), also this winrate is totally unsustainable, and likely a heater :) Just making a joke at WVH

I think playing 50nl and sustaining like a 5/100BB playing like 40-50k hands would def be better than a summer job tho, 25nl is just too low, unless we are talking money only for gas and fun stuff.

Okay, kinda interesting question... may or may not have been brought up before but here goes.

When you arrive at a table and people have no history on you, there are only a couple things to go by as to their playing style/how good they are/etc...
-The first 50 hands or so
-how much they buy in with

My question is, since the amt. you buy in with seems to determine your initial image, would it be profitable to say, buy in with $47 at a 50NL table??

Your going to get close to max value vs full stackers/regs, and even though you don't completely get the max value, I would think you could fairly easily make up the difference in people stacking lighter on you w/in the first few hundred hands

Thoughts? Is this just dumb?

I only am thinking about it b/c i just moved up limits, and am therefore a virtual unknown at 25NL

I dunno if it works, but I buyin for 97bbs for similar reasoning...I often have fishy stats to back up the appearance too :D Half the time I'm going to have 100bbs after the first orbit anyway.
