I announced last week that an update was coming today but I've barely gotten to play, only about 3K hands total. Boy, I should never set myself goals..

A proper update is now planned for Friday. I'll probably still be underrolled then, but hopefully less so than right now.

6 is basically two days. On Sunday, once again ran real deep in the $28k guar but busted out 60th when it looked much more promising. I'm faltering a little bit with my late game play but I feel like my steals and overall procedural play are solid. Regardless, has a terrible FTOPS 8, where I was virtually card dead the entire time. Disappointing to qualify for it and not even play your best game. Regardless, rebounded today after being down to about $270 with a few big cashes. I tilted once and played a $50 SNG, but once again won it for $225. Although this is out of my limit and I avoid it as much as possible, I'm 3 for 3 on wins in my last three $50 + $5 SNG's. Hopefully I can hit a point where I can play these consistently because this was the third time I've outplayed and outplaced Lynnette Chan, whose the resident Full Tilt Poker pro who is a $50+$5 SNG junky.

It's really hard to decipher my play when I feel like I run so inconsistently. Hopefully I can crack this and keep this success up.

I just stated that I tilted for a bit. I'm saying that I made a poor decision yet it payed off in this situation. I realize that that is poor bankroll management and I'm trying to do my best to stick to $20 SNG's and similarly ranged MTT's. It happens. For the most part though I've done a solid job of following decent BR guidelines. Regardless, the puzzling thing about the situation is that I play much better at higher price level SNG's.

For some reason I took like that you are playing them all the time and just aren't consistently winning. Still the fact that you are playing at a table with 1/5 of your BR on the line is kind of scary.

Day21 - Hmmmn! Not much to say other than crap! That's pretty much how a downswing makes you feel. Played on Stars for 1k hands down around half a BI, then I thought I'd play Party for a bit seeing as I hadn't played on there for a while. I can usually rely on Party for a few bucks coz it's so fishy, but christ they handed my ass to me on a plate. There's a couple of fishes on Party enjoying the high life as we speak, courtesy of me . I was down 5 BI's on Party before the laptop got aggressively shut down for the evening. I did manage to playback a few pots on PT and realised that I'm still playing ok. Those 5 BI's were down to 3 bad beats and 2 coolers so what can you do!

Taking a day off from poker today and I'm considering playing 25nl so as not to damage my BR too much until this downswing turns into a beautiful sharp upschwwwiing.

Just grinding out trying to get back to 110%. Day 46 was miserable at ring and team tournament. I picked up a little in the Bronze Ironman monthly "freeroll". I expect to play the Silver next month. Day 47 was a rest and regroup day. I did get my one point for the One a Day freeroll that I missed for January, but not much else. Days 48 and 49 satisfactory, but I am still holding down to $1/$2 while I check my play. I want to get that average line headed up before I venture into $2/$4 again.

Kinda crazy swings. Was down a lot, tried a 50 dollar tourney and busted, but went real deep in a 5 dollar tourney and got money. Also in the middle of a satellite to ftops 12 with 50 seats payin and 76 left so almost in a 322 tourney and all it cost so far was 6 bucks for the super satellite i won!

Another positive day. Finished my Full Tilt bonus time and cleared half. Now working on a PokerStars bonus. That one is all or nothing; have another month and since I finished Full Tilt Poker it will be easy.

Following my enforced absence, I’ve been “reacquainting” myself with online poker by playing various micro / low stakes games (both FL and NL) at various sites. My original intention was to try to wean myself away fro FL in favour of NL. However, I just don’t feel as comfortable, or enjoy, the NL game as much. Given that (for me at least) poker is all about enjoying the game (a profit is a very nice bonus) I’ve given up on NL and gone back to my favoured FL.

I’ve also decided to make a ‘fresh’ start rather than continuing where I left off in this thread. Further more, I’ve decided to switch from the iPoker network to PokerStars (mainly because the rewards are marginally better than iPoker). I’ve closed all my accounts at the various sites that I had deposits at, pocketed a little over $200, and deposited $500 at Stars, where I will (initially) be playing $1 / $2 Fl. It’s a slightly aggressive BRM strategy (and not one I’d recommend to a complete novice – just added thatin view of the spat following Chris’s revised strategy J) but the phrase “you can’t take it with you” has taken a hike in my perspective right now L.

So, my stats, for day one are above – a healthy start, but it has to be said with better than average hands.

Good to see your back, Boltneck. I play $1/$2 limit with less than $500 on each site (four), but my aggragate plus my undeposited reserve says even $2/$4 is OK. My graph is my total designated poker bankroll.

New to the group

Hello, my name is Eddie and after reading most of your posts on bankrolls. I felt the urge to post. It was nice to read about people who like myself have bought into online poker sites and lost that buyin very fast. I have had a strange journey with poker. I played once or twice a week in college with the largest buyin being 10$ By last year (my senior yr) I began going with some friends to a local charity tourney once a month with live cash games. That coupled with going to the casino often once a week got me so addicted to poker and gambling its been hard to think about much else.

I have to admit Texas holdem isn’t my game. I can handle live and do decently well but online I suck at it; same reasons as everyone else suckouts high blinds. I have since graduated and found finding a job difficult and poker taking up my mind way too often, but I kinda got my life on track and am going to grad school in the fall.

OK, point of this post is to establish bankroll rules and stick to them. Well like I said in have lost more deposits then I can remember, prob somewhere in the 2500$ range just online; ive prob broken even live. My online losses startled me considering I never deposited more then 150. So a couple things I discovered, I am a lot better at Omaha and the suckouts are much more rare. Trust me when I say ive done much better playing that. So I decided to put in about 230 the last time I did. I started off well increasing to 320ish rather quickly playing 25$ max buyin ring games. I stayed at that level while playing many 24+2 tourneys on fulltilt and doing rather well. So I was at bout 280 when I signed up for a 24+2 Omaha tourney on fulltilt 4000 guarantee. While playing in this at first by bankroll took some hits and I got down to around 230. So I decided to take a couple chances and play 50$ max buy-in Omaha ring game while doing the tourney. The first buyin I lost quickly but the second I played very smart and had it around 200. While this is going on the tourney I entered was going well, and around the bubble I stepped up my aggression and ended up doing rather well. When I was chip leader with 4 left I realized for once I might actually win real money. Then I did something very dumb

I told my parents in my exuberance about my first big online cash. Clearly they hate poker especially online and a major argument ensued. I luckily was able to squeeze out 2nd for an 800 something cash. Coupled with my cash game winnings I turned 230 into 1180 in a day!

SO since I pulled the money out this may not count but

Hopefully someone reads this ridiculously long post and tries Omaha due to my modest success.

Grats on your cash Eddie. It's good to see you drew a decent amount of cash from omaha but I don't know if anyone here will go straight to omaha based on your reasoning that it's just less suckouts. Omaha is a completely different game and all about drawing hands and calculations. It shares a few qualities with Hold 'Em but it's a completely seperate game.

Started off with some horrendous luck today. KK falls to K10 runner runner flush and AA falls to 99, both on the bubble of SNG's with a 2nd or 3rd place stack and a low short stack in arms ready to go out. Normally I would never play against the stacks that can gun me down but I was dominating in both situations.

Regardless, I went on a tear and took down a couple $22 + $2 Turbo SNG's. I'm really starting to like this set-up, especially when you face more inexperienced tighter competition who don't understand Harrington's M system or blind importance when the blinds really pick up 25-30 minutes in. Wasn't a fan of these earlier on, but once you adjust they become very profitable.

I understand Chris. After tenbob's intervention, we will have to struggle to revive this thread. However, what is bigger than his small-minded criticism is your guts to expose bankroll manangement out there in the open. Chris, you and I will be victorious. Because we don't let anybody give us any BS! This is why!

I hope that followers of Chris don't give up. I will support you as long as it takes.

This is a valuable thread and any issues that posters might have with each other should not be discussed here.

We've a reputation for being civil with each other which should be maintained. Taking a dig at people long after the issue has dropped is not necessary. Any further comments not related to the topic or that are inflammatory will be deleted.

You have to be very careful because I believe you're looking at this success incorrectly.
You say that you "turned 230 into 1180 in a day", but do you realize that this is not true? Yes, you had that one big win we all shoot for when we play big tournaments, but that doesn't mean that you can repeat it anytime soon.

"Turning XX into XX in a day" makes it sound as if you could do this all over again tomorrow. The truth however is that you had already invested a lot of money and that you've "turned XX into 0" a number of times. This is why you need to look at ROI rather than individual big wins.
If I play a $10 tournament every day for 29 days but never cash, and then I win $260 on the 30th day, I'll probably be really happy. After all, I will have "turned $10 into $260" in a single day. In reality though, I've invested a total of $300 for a net loss of $40.

You're not the first player who times the start of their progress updates with a big win. Don't make the mistake to think that this is how it's gonna be day in and out or that you've figured out how to beat tournaments. Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose - what counts is the long term average.

Thanks man. I have to admit that not posting updates in this thread has had something to do with my playing much less lately.
In fact, I've found that generating a graph and wrapping a day up via a progress update in this thread has always been highly motivational for me.

I believe I've played a mere 1,000 hands since I posted on Monday which is ridiculously little. I'll go back to posting regularly no matter what my bankroll is going to be tomorrow and would like to ask that nobody objects or derails the thread.

Thanks for your responses to my post. Responding to a couple of comments. I was hoping people would try omaha at a low level buyin, see if they like the game. While it is generally a looser more action oriented game, playing with anything less then the nutz is very dangerous. Realizing also that bare-nut flush draws aren't very good is also important (only draw to A high flushes as well)

I also completly realized I got lucky on my big cash, and like I said I just wanted to post and tell my story. Since I pulled my money out fast this one expierence felt mroe like going to the casino and having a winning session at blackjack rather then steadily building a bankroll. Well good luck to everyone and Ill keep reading your posts.

Pretty poor SNG day. I lost a fair amount of turbos and really couldn't get much going until the last SNG I played which I took for 2nd place and $60. Went super deep in a 25k Guaranteed on FT. Ended up taking down 11th for 238 or something but that's the only thing that really salvaged my day. Would love to run deep like that all the time .

I have been reading this post and find it very interesting. I have been playing for over a year and i have a detailed log of every day i have played since February 2007. Does anyone have any suggestions on when to start my posting. From the top of my head i would think Jan 1/2008, Feb 1/2008 or Feb 14o or 15/2008 would be good starting points.
