I believe that a dose of luck is essential to becoming a winner.
I have seen and suffered from bad luck at times.
Sometimes a river can define a tournament where all decisions have been made well.

Let me explain it’s my own story
I am a business man running very small business one day I could not make money even a penny from 10 Am tow7 Pm I was very tired it was a long day without any thing I decided to go back home in the middle of the way I saw a man in front of the lottery shop shouting that there is just 2 scratches card left and no one interested it was rash hour a lot of people was around I said to my self let’s buy that 2 cards so the man can go home and I bought it about 4$ when I arrived to my station I saw old lady she was my neighbor she told me that she won 2 tickets for new slots machine waiting for her husband but he is not coming so she asked me to play I said I am tired and refused to go but she started pushing me until I took the ticket and start playing it was about 8:30pm in the 3rd spins the slot machine started to win till 10:30 yes I won about 1500$ just spent about 2$ in the way home I said to my self I tried so hard working all day no sales and this happened arriving at home taking shower had my dinner and drinks a bottle of beer go to the bed I remember about scratch card took them out of my bag scratched first one nothing inside scratched the second one could not believe it was won 1000$ luck, timing, suddenly happened sorry my poor English and apology for the long story

Luck has some impact on being a successfull player. Of course risk management and bankroll management work but in the end some players will be more lucky than others.

Today something happened to me with luck, I clarify I am not a professional, but luck always ends up being a determining factor, playing poker start, I got 10 hands in which the highest load was a J, I participated in several of those hands and I lost a bit of stack, in the hand number 11 I have 9-9 and the flop comes 7 - 2 - 9, I raise the bet and my opponent goes all-in and of course I pay, my opponent with AA sees my cards and does not want to see more totally disappointed.
Turn J, River A.
Is it bad luck ?, bad streak, bad hand ?, or bad 11 hands ,? luck is always decisive.

For me luck is 30% of this magnificent game, the rest is wisdom and hours of study and play.

I know players who always play with bad hands and according to their statistics win more than 80%, that is called luck.

This is a fascinating topic.

For anyone looking for wider reading I would recommend 'The Biggest Bluff' by Maria Konnikova.

She is a writer/author with a PHD in Pyschology. She was researching about luck which led her to Poker:

“I didn’t know anything about poker,” she says. “I wanted to write a book about luck. I wanted to explore the role that luck plays in our lives, and how we can learn to tell the difference between what is luck and what is skill.”

I won't spoil the book, but it's an interesting poker story.

As the old saying goes, "It's better to be lucky than good." Hard to win poker tournaments without luck. The cards you're dealt are completely out of your control, same as the cards shown on the board, but it's in your power to play the best you can preflop and postflop. It's your decisions that control your faith. All you can do is make the best decisions with the limited info you have available and hope you have the better hand or lady luck is on your side.

All I know is that I've been losing races w/aces a lot, lately, so luck does exist. For me it just happens to be bad. For my peers at the table who keep flopping sets it's been quite the opposite. Oh well, wouldn't be poker without it.
