short term it's way more luck than people think, long term it's almost pure skill. non-players think you can just be a "good bluffing person" and win every night, but they don't realize how brutal volume and sample size are.

I think luck is less important than the general public believes. People usually judge poker by a single hand or one session, where luck can absolutely decide the outcome. But over hundreds or thousands of hands, skill, discipline, and decision making become the biggest factors. Good players can't control the cards they receive, but they can control how they play them, manage their bankroll, and handle variance. Luck determines short term results, while skill determines long term success.

I feel like I wouldn't do the most important thing because you don't play with luck every time, knowing how to play is the most important thing about knowing when throwing your hand away is one of the mental processes that has the greatest value and that many players don't give it that importance.

The general public definitely thinks luck is more important in poker than it is. Luck is far more important in tournaments than in real poker ; to win or place highly you will have to win several coin-flip hands, or many hands where you only have a 20 or 33% chance to win.

I think luck is a little less important than it used to be because there is so much training material available now. In the short term, luck can absolutely decide a session or tournament, but over the long run it's skill, discipline, bankroll management, and making good decisions that separate winning players from everyone else.
