I think that people who have never played poker, just hearing the term "card game", and knowing that the cards in the deck of cards are randomly arranged, already think that this is a game in which luck plays a decisive role!!! But the term card "game" itself is not so simple in the case of poker, since randomly arranged cards are only part of the game of poker, which also includes bluffing, semi-bluffing, bankroll management and many other small details that are impossible to know if you do not play poker!!!

They don't believe me that you can win without investing in poker, playing freerolls and making money out of thin air.Due to the emotionality and subjectivity of thinking, people often interpret the variability of poker incorrectly. You need to develop a critical mindset so that you can reach your full potential in poker.

With examples "who knows who" of non-poker players, I can't count how many times I heard that gamblers (not just poker players) at the end going to loose it all...🥳

I think the most common misconception about poker is that it's just a lottery, a game of luck. Many people who have never played don't realise how deep poker is in its structure and content, and while luck is certainly a necessary and important element, skill, experience, patience and discipline are also crucial.

Many people confuse poker with a casino game.
but in fact it is a game where luck is not dominant in the game, factors such as specific skills and game strategy are essential in the game.

it’s normal when people have erroneous opinions without understanding the issue deeply, I once worked as a croupier in a casino, and there was a category of people who thought that I was shoveling money

Some people are really interested in knowing if you spend money on it, how you do it, if you get money out of it, where you play... and all so that they can judge you or categorize you against others. In the end he puts you on a list of all the gamblers he knows or has heard of who have lost everything. Too few around me who appreciate the game itself.

That is the biggest misconception I hear: They think it is a casino game. I explain that when I play poker in a casino poker room, I am playing against other players - not against the house. When you're playing against the house, you will never win in the long run (I don't think). However, when you are playing against other players your skill, their lack of skill, and luck will give you a fighting chance.

the biggest misconception is that if you are unlucky in cards, you will be lucky in love))) by this I wanted to say that many people are mistaken when they think that they will be able to earn a lot of money quickly on poker now... in the long term, yes, but not in a month))

Most non-poker players are very judgmental about it. As stated by almost everyone above, their biggest misconception is that poker is just another gambling game. In general, they can't really be blamed, it would be like blaming someone for being "Ignorant".

But I always wonder how so many people still can compare poker to roulette, Lottery, Races or Sports Betting . If they don't know anything about poker, I'm sure they, at least, know that a poker player holds cards and makes decisions, thus having a certain impact on the outcome, as opposed to putting money on a certain event and hoping for it to happen.

I'm really glad I play poker, and not only for the potential money one could make, but also for the fun and the serious brain challenge the game provides.

I can only name one misconception, if only it exists, poker should never be played.
some of the misconceptions listed here are not misconceptions at all.
Is poker a gambling game?
Yes. if you are passionate about this process, if you expect some kind of success or not, it doesn't matter, but you are constantly immersed in it, this is excitement.
Is poker a game of luck? Yes.
you were dealt cards, you shove them in, you are answered or vice versa, followed by the collection of the best combinations, who was lucky, he won.
Is poker a lottery? Yes.
look at the item above.

For those who are outside, and have never played poker, it is seen as a game of chance, with the mentality of years ago where families were ruined by even losing their homes at the gaming table, but to me this is just folklore or a scene from some film.

Not going to repeat what already has been said but one missconception i had when i started to play online was that i thought a very good player or pro is going to win almost everytime.

I started out with sit and goes online and i thought a pro is winning money/winning in like 9 out of 10 games.

I've heard many people say that poker players have all kind of adiction problems. From betting without control to hard drugs.
Although that misconception changes abruptly when they hear that you play behind a computer 😅

One of the biggest misconceptions people have about poker is that it's purely a game of luck. Many non-players believe that winning or losing in poker is primarily determined by chance, akin to games like roulette or slot machines. However, in reality, poker is a game of skill where strategic decision-making, psychological insight, and understanding of probabilities play crucial roles. Skilled players consistently outperform less experienced opponents over the long term, demonstrating that luck, while a factor in the short term, is outweighed by skillful play and decision-making prowess.

Oh geez where do I start with this @Shells ...

- Poker players are degenerate gamblers who are bucketed with "regular" gamblers and slot players
- Poker players are cheaters becasue of the stories that exist out there
- Poker players are mean, lousy people in society

Many people who do not play poker consider poker players to be addicted to the game. I met a lot of people who changed their attitude towards me as soon as they heard that I played poker. Sometimes there were even cases when people treated me as a sick person, a person who has an addiction. But I didn't explain anything to anyone, and I don't plan to :)

Biggest misconception of poker is that majority of people refuse to accept the fact that their life is not a never ending process. 100 year life is 876K hours, will you live 100 years? 25-35% will be spent in sleep, some time will be spent in the wc and bathroom, some time has passed already. Objectively it doesn't actually matter if poker player wins or loses, objectively poker player exchanges his life time for a dose of dophamine while observing rotation of same 52 cards, doing nothing useful for the society, evolution process or for the human race in general and also for his personal life and progress. Objectively best poker players, casinos, and other types of influencers including CardsChat - they're all providers or advertisers of well wasted life at the poker table. For example medics save lives, plumbers save even more lives, scientists invent things, engineers use these inventions to make new objects that improve our lives, singers, writers, art in general - makes our lives full of feelings. But some traps in our lives just spend our time for nothing or for a small dose of dophamine, such as majority of video games, majority of movies and tv series, card games... these are huge "meat grinders" for human-hours... I'm just trying to be objective about current state of things. Some people take poker too seriously, and I was one of them, according to objective observation I might still be one of them, since I'm still playing. Well my excuse for myself if that I'm good at multitasking and I do useful things like drawing 3d models or plans while I play some poker in the evening, but still the game consumes some of my attention... It's formal logic, or what I think is formal logic... correct me if I'm wrong.
