100nl winrate: 11.47 PTBB/100
200nl winrate: -1.31 PTBB/100
400nl winrate: 4.15 PTBB/100

I've been awake for 36+ hours so no poker today.
It's been raining for like the past 3 weeks so I can't get shit done around the house.
The Trilliums haven't bloomed yet so I don't have a mother's day present for my mom.
I am in desperate need of a new computer ASAP.

But, I made chicken cordon bleu for dinner and it was f'n epic so life is good.

Would it be possible for you to inquire with your colleagues? Obviously it's

Epic Zandi D Response said:
Hello Zach,

Thank you for your email.

While I certainly play chess, keep in mind that my style of play is highly
unorthodox and I only play at the high stakes chess tables. You need to be
aware that players at low stakes chess tables, where you should be playing
to start with, might react differently to the same type of play. Meaning
that if you lose using my strategies, it is not because the other players
are too good, but because they are not good enough.

Regarding the Queen's Gambit, I find that it works best against aggressive
opponents, so if you are are playing against people who raise pre-opening a
lot, you should definitely attempt the Queen's Gambit, especially if you get
pocket pawns.

That said, when playing black I generally accept it, as explained in the
next paragraph, but then I will sometimes let the pawn on c4 be taken
without much fuss as it provides a distraction while I try to penetrate the
other side of the board.

Declining the Queen's Gambit is extremely rude, and should really not be
attempted at a gentleman's game. However, I know that other chess players
are not as ethical as you and I, and I realize that you do need to know
about this strategy, not to use it of course, but to counter it.

Here is one of my unorthodox plays that I call 'Queen's Gambit Declined,
NOT', which works by Declining the Gambit in a standard way, waiting for
white to getting his horse out or whatever those crazy white people do, and
only then taking the pawn. In my experience, people have a very binary view
of the Queen's Gambit, it is either do or do not, and taking the pawn a few
moves later may very well throw a spanner in their works.

Do keep in mind that these are extremely professional strategies only used
in the most elite chess circles, such as the South Benchford Chess Club for
the Criminally Insane.

And last, but not least, being of Slavic descent, my favourite response to
White's c4 (after d4 d5) is c6 - simulating the Russian zergs onto German
machine guns in Stalingrad - and we won that one. It also helps get the
bishop out and you know that we are not too thrilled about them.

There are many variations to choose from after the c6 move, and most of them
help eliminate the weaknesses of Queen's Gambit Declined. I will not go into
them (not because I do not know how to explain them but, just because). But
I would recommend you to read:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/adam.bozon/slav.htm

And finally, since you are a valued member of PokerStars, I will reveal
where I learned most of my advanced moves, please do not spread this link
around, as I would like to keep my advantage:

http://www.chessvariants.com/chess4kids.dir/c4c-intro.html

I apologize for this somewhat unstructured response and I hope it at least
partly answers your questions and does give you some new ideas while also
entertaining you. Keep in mind that while chess books are fine and dandy,
the nitty gritty reality of chess is generally more like in the attached
picture I shamelessly stole off PBF (http://www.pbfcomics.com).

And one last question for the end: Have you ever attempted to offer the
Queen's Gambit as black? It is also a very unorthodox maneuver, works like a
charm.

Have fun at the tables (chess and poker) and do let us know if there is
anything else we can do for you.

Regards,

Zandi D
