don't you think i have tried reasoning with them ?
they seem to believe online poker will be shut down overnight and everyone will lose their money.

they want me to take the money out i have put in it so im playing purely on profits. i was going to do this anyway but not now and not all in one go

anyway ill see what im gonna do for now

It's your money, not theirs Enty. It doesn't matter how risky they think poker is, it's your decision.

edit: well then pay back whatever money they gave you in the beginning and tell them it's out of their hands from then on.

Around 2 hours or so. I start losing focus after that.

My probably futile attempt to get arguments on my side :)

Hello Koen,

Thank you for contacting us.

While it's too soon to know how things will develop, we are closely
monitoring the developments in Belgium and we are actively working to
promote the implementation of regulations around Europe that give the
local authorities the level of control that they desire, while still
giving our players full access to the same great games that we have
today.

We will continue in this effort, and you can rest assured that we will
communicate any developments to our players as soon as we have any news.

As fotr the safety of your real money funds I can tell you that PokerStars
is owned and operated by a legal entity located in the Isle
Of Man (a crown dependency of the United Kingdom) and we pride
ourselves on abiding by all relevant laws and regulations. We would like
to reassure you that all funds held with PokerStars are
completely secure. Player deposits are held in a separate bank
account so that they remain completely isolated from all other aspects
of the business.

Key words bolded. Also lol they fail at logic what does it matter if the money you have on there is profits or not? Money is money.

Yea Enty I know how you feel. After I won my first MTT for like ~300 (not anything big) I told my parents b/c I was happy and my mom wanted to have a talk with me about being addicted/risking all of my money on pure luck...

Since then I just haven't told her anything, but she is psycho so the situation could be different...

Do you pay for rent? Food? Clothing?

If so, then of course tell them it's your decision as an adult.

If not then thank them for keeping you and discuss poke and money but understand where they are coming from.

they pay for all of that and more.
i can see where they are coming from. they want me to take the money out that i have put in so that the risk is gone so to speak, that i cant lose any of my money. i just dont share their view.

their claims that poker could be banned and all money lost is kind of paranoid and unlikely too imo i think if anything poker will become more accepted and legalized over the next years because come on what government is gonna say no to more tax revenue ? have they seen how much they tax cigarettes ? it's not like that ain't harmful.

ive talked to my mom and shes somewhat reasonable about it but my dads always a hardass.

also they keep bringing up the stock market how so many people lost money without ever thinking it would be possible, but come one playing on the stock market is so much more risky and less skill involved :)p) than poker is.
then theres the failing economies, but like galfond said in that CC iview i think the poker economy and regular economy are quite different and just because one is failing doesnt mean the other will too imo

so that leaves me to convince my dad which will probably never happen.

How about talking to them about managing the money safely with an online and offline element to your bankroll?

You keep a "safe" amount on-line and have the restsomewhere accessible but not on the poker site, but it remains "poker money" and you use it if you have to.

To my mind the big sites are about as safe as anything these days (which is to say there remains a small risk, but not one I worry about), but your parents are bound to be concerned and I imagine their point is probably only part of their viewpoint with concerns about gambling and time spent playing poker also being part of it.

All I can say is be honest with them and appreciate what they are doing for you when many parents don't give a rat's arse. Though it sounds like you understand all this anyway.
