Night and Day: What Time Do You Prefer to Play?

I work until 5 central time. I'll try to hop on at 6 or 7 on nights that I play. I rarely will play on weekends.

What I Prefer Isn't Always What Is Best

I prefer to play poker in the mornings until about lunch time but unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the 'prime' time for me to play for a couple of reason:

1. all the good tournaments are in the evenings
2. I seem to do better when I start a tournament late evening

For these reasons I tend to play more in the evening but would rather play in the morning, lol.

What time of day do you prefer to play poker?

When I'm playing to maximize profits I enjoy playing in the evening, games are certainly softer and the competition is weaker as the effects of fatigue come into play.

When I'm playing to just be at my best or in a steady routine of playing everyday I like to play in the afternoon, and the benefits are many

1) I'm at my sharpest in the afternoon after resting lots, eating well and exercising
2) I am unlikely to go past my play limits because I won't want to miss dinner
3) I don't mess up my sleep schedule (being on the computer after 9pm, especially being in the excited state that comes from playing poker makes it very hard to sleep)
4) I feel healthier and happier in general from staying on my circadian rhythm

It also means that when I need the energy to push thru for a late night session I have it available, but I've found from doing this for over a decade that the late night sessions really wear on me in the long run and are better to be the exception rather than the rule.

Daniel Negreanu talked about this in his masterclass as well, he said when he was building up his bankroll playing cash games that he would treat it like a normal job, working 10-6pm

As usual... it all depends on your motivations and reasons for playing the game

I like playing in the day, because I’m more focused, but some poker sites have their most tournaments in the night, which isn’t really nice.

Probably there is nothing better than playing when it is quiet around and you are alone drinking coffee or a drink, but night is the best time for online poker

I usually play in the afternoon. but I also like the night time. if i had more time i would play at least 16 hours a day. because the game makes me very happy

I really don't mind either. I have to be in the right frame of mind to play well and on-line I can play when I want. In a live game you have to play at the organised time, and some times do not play well at all.
It all comes down to how you are feeling at the time, playing after having an argument is a really bad Idea as it puts you in a bad mood, and you will make bad decisions, you need to think positive and play accordingly.
I had played many Regional Finals for my local Pub Poker League falling well short of the Final table and when I found myself talking to one of the event organiser's during a break I told her I just wanted to get to the Final table and would be happy with that, when she asked me "Why settle for that?" I just replied " Every time I play, I aim for the Final Table. I never think I can win until I get to the Final Table, THEN! I think about winning"
It works for me.

Night time when I’m relaxed . But I don’t mind . One thing I don’t like is the PokerStars server restarts of recent ! Like now! Been 150mins already. Kmon PokerStars get ya A into G 😀

I prefer to play at night time, less distraction but the drawback is if I play tournament ,i will be in wee hours and sleep starts taking over . I become less performing
