Patience isn't forgotten; just that impatient players tend to be more vocal and patient players tend to keep secrets (as obvious as patience is) to themselves. I can be patient if I need to...but sometimes you have to realize effective stacks or rising blinds too :D

This is absolutely true, and the lack of patience also shows itself in an expectation for instantaneous results. Some people expect, that they can deposit 50$ and run it up to 1.000$ in a few weeks, like its an arcade game. Or they play 10 tournaments, suffer some bad beats and conclude, that online poker must be rigged. Nearly everyone underestimate the amount of time and patience, it takes to succeed in poker :)

This is what I was trying to say with better examples. I like it.

One of the best tips is to have a game plan and follow it to the letter, that will help you to be patient since you know what your goal is.

That's one of the problems ... the vast majority have no plan and think it is sitting at the table and playing all the hands they receive.
And they do it precisely because they have no patience.

Patience is important both live and online. Probably the degree of a poker player's success depends on the ability to maintain balance. After all, television and the Internet are full of examples of how ordinary people such as you and me have achieved worldwide recognition and respect.
This is also partly due to the fact that Texas Hold'em is more of a marathon than a sprint, and especially cash games. You need to be on the alert for a long time, soberly and calmly analyzing what is happening and making the most profitable decisions.

As far as I'm concerned, patience is THE most important facet of playing poker. Read any book by guys like Harrington, Brunson, Ivey, etc, and they all say to be patient, and "the cards will come". It's true.

In the old no "late registration" days of PokerStars "Sunday Storm", I sat for 2 hours, and played one hand. Believe it, or not, it got me in the money, and after that the cards started coming, and I got a couple of hundred dollars out of it.

That was an extreme example of patience, because impatience will usually kick in, and when it does, I become an observer.

Hello. Patience is very important. The right time, the right position, cards in your range, good EV and a good number of outs on the flop makes a great world and takes patience to find that right opportunity...kind of like an ol gator in hiding and jumping out of the water to grab it's prey. Having fun, loving life. Cheers!

The thread is a bit old, but the issue is very topical and timeless. Patience is very important in poker (but let’s say in life as well). If you are impatient or you can get your revenge on poker and you could soon lose chips. Proper timing is very important in poker and it is quite difficult to do it without patience. Many times you have to wait for the right situation and card while playing and you can only do well if it all happens and it is a difficult thing to do without patience.

Good luck. :)

I tend do lose patience a couple hours into a tournament and start playing too loosely. I've found it helps if I play another table at the same time to keep myself entertained.

I would say that patience is one of the psychological pillars of poker:
1- Patience
2- Discipline
3- Aggressiveness

Nothing is better than busting the maniac at the table with a well timed play. I live for those spots.

I believe patience is a key quality in poker. If you don't get a suitable starting hand for a long time or the draws don't come, it doesn't make sense to take unnecessary risks. Greg Merson, who won the WSOP in 2012, folded his good starting hands about 10 times against Gaelle Baumann from France and was very frustrated. His folds were correct, Gaelle flopped an over-average number of sets or got on the turn or had top 2 pair. Still, he played his game and ultimately won the title. Even if you unluckily lose almost all of your chips in a coin flip ... with "one chip and a chair" everything is possible in tournament poker. :)

I really believe that patience is one of the things that a poker player should master throughout his/her career because pros are saying that it's always the long run that matters. If you have no patience then it is a big problem having success in this game.

I think patience is massively important especially at the lower limits.

When you are playing against so many "wild" beginner level players, you are going to take a lot of bad beats and coolers.

If you really want to have success at these stakes then patience is one of the top skills you are going to need to learn.

One of my most popular posts on my blog actually talks about this more:
