I don't know that freeroll winnings would qualify as not playing with "scared" money. You likely have hours and hours invested for a couple bucks of winnings. That's a lot of time to lose on a single bad beat. Where, a $50 deposit is probably significantly less than 10 hours of work at a normal job and is an amount most people could afford to spend on entertainment. If you deposit $50 and play the $2 or $5 buy-in games, you'll have a ton of entertainment without much need to fear losing. It isn't like you are going to be ruined, if you lose. Where losing freeroll winnings will mean starting over from scratch and an unpredictable amount of time that you have to invest before you get back to the tables.
Just deposit an amount that you can afford to lose on entertainment. Play stakes that are reasonable, compared to what you deposited. And, learn how to play real poker. Play money poker is a different game, which has little relation to real money poker.
