Are pocket jacks a premium hand?

If you have pocket jacks. Your advantage is you have made a hand, that can get better. It is a premium hand, BUT thread carefully.. One in one probably wins 85%. At a 8 handed table.. not so much.. But as a poker player you got to play it..
Poker pros would raise 3 times big blind automatically… Saying to table beat me.

I tend to play slow roll in the early stages of every premium pocket, in the later stages of a tournament I play pocket JJ more aggressively and in my opinion JJ are a premium hand

I don't consider JJ a premium pair, I don't despise it either, I've won, I've also lost, and I don't usually put it aside, pre-flop I've reached allinn, as I was less aggressive, I prefer JJ than AA

I don't like it when a pair of identical cards comes in at all. On the one hand, it is a certain weight in the current hand. But very illusory. There is a risk of losing self-control by succumbing to an increase in rates. And emotions are a bad helper in poker.

Pockets jacks are difficult to play. I raise this hand, but to get a high value this pair off jacks is hard to play. If you get more than one caller the chance is very high that someone hit a pair too. Especially if qk or a is in the flop. Then you are in a defense position. If you stay agressive you could loose some chips against the better pair. If you are not aggressive you could not raise your value. Anotther aspect is that if no qk or ace is in the flop you find someone which calls and one of these cards came on the turn or river. Some callers have a low pair and hit a set and you think you are the great boss with your overpair. Overall some negative aspects for this hand.

was in a final table $7.50 torny, 2 others players and myseft left, chip leader went allin on his bb he had KK other one called with QQ and me lowest stack of ta 3 i called with JJ and i won biggest set with jjj so i like it and won ta tornyment

I think Pocket Jacks is the bottom of premium hands but still should be considered. If you are very early in the tournament / very deep you will need to play it very carefully but the same things go with QQ and sometimes even KK ... Justo dont think you are the absolute winner and you'll probably have profit with this hand.

They're 6th. And that's part of the problem. All of those others are ahead of them.

Most of the times you wake with AK after the flop you still have Only AK, its not my words , Negreanu says that. A high sure is not better than any pair so i think you might be wrong on that one.

Is JJ a premium hand....
Personally I believe that it is... at ALL stages of a tournament and from any position in a cash game.

77 is a premium hand if you're sitting on 12bb's in late position deep in a tournament.

Jacks are not a premium hand though they are a good hand. I play jacks with the knowledge that they are dominated or beaten with a strong draw.

Personally if the preflop isnt to pricy I would probably play JJ and then from the flop work out if it's worth playing, as a go to the JJ isnt that premium

Sure... because like Antonio says on the wsop streams (and elsewhere), "it's hard to make a pair." (Specifically 29% chance of flopping a pair.)

So let's say that after the flop you still "have only AK". In the 71% of the time that your opponent didn't flop a pair (and doesn't have a pocket pair), you are ahead. Even if they have a pocket pair (6% chance per player) and didn't flop a set (89% of the time), unless they had AA or KK, you are still flipping. So, to review:

71% of the time, you have them dominated (75/25) or they have 2 undercards (67/32)
In the times they had a pocket pair (which is based on how many players there were preflop), 89% of the time you are flipping.

So most of the time you are seriously golden with AK. And if they did have a pocket pair and did flop a set, you are not really much more screwed than any other time you are against and opponent that flops a set below you.

And that's why AK is better than JJ and only about equal to QQ. Because math.

I play pocket jacks with caution. It all depends on many factors, which stage of the tournament are you in. What position? So it all depends on how you decide to play them

sure AK is not a bad hand but lets say you are on a final table in a big tournament and someone puts you in All-In wich hand do you think that is best to call? AKo or pocket jacks? AKo would be a huge mistake when thinkng ICM.

Most of the times with AK you will be fliping almost about equal odds ok but poker is not only Math as you can see what other players are doing.

I consider it a decent hand , but not a premium hand. it can be very costly if you dont flop good.
