I honestly think calling poker a 'game of chance' is something only people who have never studied a range would say. To me, it’s a mental sport. Sure, you can't control the deck, but you can control your decisions, your bankroll, and how you exploit your opponents. If it were just luck, you wouldn't see the same faces at the final tables year after year

The Real Answer: It’s Both, Poker is a skill game played through a mechanism of chance.
Luck determines: The cards you receive, Short-term swings
Skill determines: How you respond, How much value you extract, Whether you survive variance
In other words, Luck determines what happens to you, Skill determines how you respond to it.

If it were pure luck, the same players wouldn’t consistently win year after year.
It requires strategy, psychology, discipline, bankroll management, and emotional control.

That said, it’s not a physical sport in the traditional sense.

I’d call it a mind sport — where skill decides the long run, and variance just spices it up.

I would not call it a sport,it is a game of skill with just enough luck to make us think we know what were doing,it kind of makes me feel when I golf,shoot 110 but made 2 great shots on the last hole just to make me think maybe I can play this game

I agree with that. In the short term poker definitely feels like a game of luck, but over the long run skill makes a huge difference. That’s why some players can stay profitable for years while others can’t. Luck affects sessions, but skill shows over time.

Poker is a combination of skill and luck. These are two essential components. No matter how experienced a player you are, without luck, you will unfortunately not succeed.

In long term, luck does not exist in poker. If the player is good and adds volume (hundreds of thousands of hands) they will be winning. Considering they won't be playing too many better opponents

Short term, sure, you may be lucky or not.
