I wouldn't class poker as either of those terms.

It's definitely not a sport and It's has and element of chance involved.

But there is many more fascist to the game of poker.

I believe it's a mental sport; whoever makes the best decisions gets the best results. Of course, you need luck, variance, and everything else that poker involves.

Poker is a sport but with much higher variance than any other.

Curry makes 95% of his 3pt attempts lets say, for him to be taking good shots and miss 2 or 3 in a row it would be astronomically rare.

If I go all in pre with AA vs 72o im only winning ~88% of the time and thats the most extreme scenario. To get sucked out on 3 times in a row is rare, but much much more likely than in other sports.

People who got a single injury and ended their entire career would disagree strongly there.

It's definitely a mix of both, but I view it as a game of skill with a significant luck element in the short term. While anyone can win a single hand or a single tournament through pure chance, the same professionals consistently reaching final tables proves that skill is the dominant factor over a large sample size

I think it's a game of chance but with the human factor which makes it interesting since you have to keep in mind that behind your rival there is another human trying to win and this makes them make mistakes.
