Poker Addiction

I don’t think I’m addicted to poker. Sometimes I get so tired of it that I take a couple of days off and just play video games instead. It’s hard to develop a real addiction when you have a full-time job, a wife, and kids keeping you busy. Honestly, poker feels more like a hobby I can pick up or drop whenever I want.

I don't have a gambling addiction, it's just a hobby for me. I play when I have time, and I can go weeks without playing.

If you are a profitable player then why not? Spending time at the tables is most definitely not worse than watching some stupid TV series, but if you are losing money it’s a problem.

Generally if you are enjoying it and it doesn’t influence other aspects of your life it’s alright 👍

I really like to play poker; I even think it's my favorite card game, but I'm not addicted to it. If it were, I would have lost everything, hahaha. I think it's a sensitive topic. Being an addict is very dangerous. Everything in excess in this life is bad. Poker requires time, a lot of time, time that can't be recovered. Hopefully you can choose what's best for you; maybe poker is what makes you happy.

I’ve been through phases like that too, and it can feel like you’re trapped in the cycle. Taking a step back for a few days or setting a strict schedule really helped me keep poker fun instead of overwhelming. The game will always be there when you come back

I'm on 888 every day. I don't have much else to do. So I waste time there. At least with poker i feel like I have control.

I like poker but being addicted leads to making bad decisions and losing your money was spent once in college and it hurt me in what was most important at the time. Now I play 1 or 2 tournaments a day, whatever the result, I'll be back the next day

It sounds like you’re being really honest about your situation and that’s important. Spending half the day playing poker and feeling like you “can’t leave the circle” can be a sign that the game is shifting from a hobby into something that’s controlling you, rather than the other way around. There comes a time when you need to possibly reflect on the current situation

Well, I don't think dedicating yourself to something you enjoy will ever be seen as an addiction.
It's important to have quality time in other areas of your life, and when you sit down to play poker, dedicate yourself to that, because we know how much attention we need to make our decisions in the game.
Try to be honest with yourself and practice good time management if that's what you really want, and obviously, keep up with your learning.
For me, an addict might be relying on "luck" because they're incapable of making decisions, let alone good ones.

I know the feeling 😅. I’m on vacation right now, so I spend most of my time playing poker too. Not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing… but at least the cards are keeping me busy instead of the beach 🏖️😂
