I liked the way you compared it to an hourly job. I think it makes a lot of sense to analyze the results over several months, and not just after a good run. I still have a lot to prove before I consider taking that step.

I agree. The more I read the comments here, the more I realize that having a good financial reserve is practically a requirement before thinking about living solely in poker.

Obrigado.

Outro ponto a considerar.

You made some points that I hadn't even considered yet, especially the issue of market stability and taxes. I think that each comment here is helping me to see this decision more rationally. Right now, I'm more and more inclined to continue with my job and let poker grow naturally as a second source of income. If I ever make that transition, I want it to be because the numbers really figured out it was time.

PEACE AND GOOD.

Yeah it's a huge decision for sure and not one to make lightly so much too consider one really needs take their time and think it all thru. I think for the majority it's best keep the day job they have and have poker as a side hustle and hobby. And like you said if one makes the transition it will be because the numbers make sense to do so or that have gotten too the point in life where they're near enough retirement that can retire early and transition into playing more poker. If that's what they choose to do.

Best of luck in you're poker journey Adelson no matter where and whatever way it leads you. Happy some of my comments helped you or at least gave you some prospective and things to think about.

Cheers!!!

Congratulations! Determine your "draw" (or salary). If poker pays most of your bills, you should withdraw only a fixed monthly salary and reinvest the rest into your bankroll. Set a fixed monthly amount that covers your basic needs. In exceptional months, save the surplus to build a financial reserve (setting aside the equivalent of at least six months of personal expenses).

Personally, I prefer poker to be a source of secondary income; like you, I earn enough by playing freerolls and using raffle tickets from social media.

Once poker pays most of your bills, focus on sustainability: grow your bankroll, keep improving, manage finances wisely, and maintain a healthy mindset. The goal is long-term stability, not just higher earnings.

Make sure you have good skill and luck, as he does well in poker. Personally, it has sometimes helped me adjust my spending, so for me, poker is like my second income.

to make living in poker you have to play minimum 50 to 100$ buy ins. you must have a really good bankroll prior to that.
making it playing micros or low is almost impossible even if you make top 10 in tourneys everytime
This is a bit of a ridiculous statement don't you think?
Your first statement is false.
Nobody makes it top 10 every time but if you did, you'd obviously be doing amazing!

There are many MTT players who play online with a much lower abi than $50 who are making a living at it.
