Can Poker be considered a sport?

For me, I find poker somewhat similar to chess.
That's why I think it deserves to be called a sport.

Poker is not a sport, poker is just a game of chance. Poker players are not athletes! Poker players are just gamblers. Poker and sports are similar because in both cases, our skill, our patience, discipline and luck will play an important role, however I do not consider poker as a sport.

The old good question. Of course, everyone immediately associates it with chess. To me, sport is a form of movement, but picking up a chess piece and pushing it away, or picking up chips and cards, does not belong in the sport category. Regardless of this, chess is still considered to be so. It's the same with eSports. It has no sporting value to me, but that's my opinion. In case of poker let's stay with the gambling category.

Cambridge dictionary Sport definition

"a game, competition, or activity needing physical effort and skill that is played or done according to rules, for enjoyment and/or as a job"

So if play life poker where you have to use your phisical skill (muscle) to trow your hand , then yes it is a sport
But seriously, it's not a sport, it's just a game, like chess, checkers, monopoly, Magic The Gathering.

I see poker as a sports game. At least my personal attitude towards poker allows me to consider poker more of a sport than a game of chance.

Yes, poker is definitely a sport of the mind. We are at a stage where we can no longer say that poker is just a card game related to luck. Nowadays there are many tools that can help us study the game, just have willpower and study to improve the game. Of course there is variance in the game, but poker is a long-term result.

No, I would say sport requires the minimum about of physical talent and or physical skill. Of course some will argue that sport requires mental ability, which is something required in poker, but you cannot class a poker player as a athlete, just because they are capable of playing with a stack of chips.
